Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

I'm eyeballing a new hydro roller cam and full roller rockers, maybe heads... but that would have to wait a month... just ordered u-bolts and spring plates from Dan at Ruffstuff yesterday, so I can do my back springs next week... should drop the arsend an inch and a 1/2 or so... and about 1/3 the springrate of now.. :haha:

Didn't you have some 496 Mercs lying around? :deal:

Also the lobster here in Boston is sooo good, out of the water to the pot, to the plate

oh, I'm trying to glam one of these.....

it's a bit weathered, ratty and such, but I'll take it in a sec, do it flat black and screw it down behind the cab.. they cost like $500+ new... it'd be super handy till the tube bed is done...

ESPECIALLY when I get the pooch and lose the back area storage that I use for my tool bags now with the seat out...

funny correlated work story .. doing an intake on one right now in the marina... tight pain in the arse Formula.... anyway, the bronze jacketed multiport intake for the 496? 2 g's to the customer! $1500 to us.... :doah: :haha:

that's just the intake, the plenum is about that much too.... the Merc sh*t adds up sooooooooo fast... a fully dressed complete 496 package from Merc is about 16 g's! :eek1:

For that kind of $$ you could swap in a Cummins 6bt :eek1:

I will do a nice multiport marine package in one at some point, but I wanna keep this mill in there a couple yrs if I can... throw a top end at it and take care of it while i collect even more marine parts... I actually have that plenum, but not the $1500 intake either! :haha:

this plenum...

keep in mind MUCH of that is the marinization package, oil and fuel coolers, heat exchangers, raw pump, etc, etc..... that's where they bang ya hard! :haha:

I'm liking the BB.. been a LONG time since I owned/drove one, and never EFI.. me likey for now.... I don't drive a ton, so it's fun around town... once I'm towing with it, maybe the 6Bt starts looking MUCH better...

oh... and I start to deal with the power doors soon too....... i can get the new shell's stripped and primed.. trimmed when i can afford a gal of red/orange...

than, I gotta try to refurb em, lube em, when i swap from one door to the other.. the windows are molasses... I see motors are like $60 or so... needs full felts, etc... TIRED components...

I meant in a boat :doah:

Have you ever done a gas to diesel conversion in a boat? If so how much did it run the owner?

Also is that plenum any good for performance?

that's a 500 ft/lb 450 hp package there..... bit of computer work and some injectors would give ya an easy 50 on each of those...

they'll run 4600 ALL DAY.....

nope, never did a conversion.. worked on a few thruout the yrs.. but it isn't done a ton... a gazillion upgrade repowers, but no conversions...

Who needs overdrive when your engine is built to run at 4600rpm :doah:

they make stupid power in the 3000 to 35 range... that's what the hulls generally like to run at..

they're no sipper tho! :haha: no O2...

yup, the cam specs are pretty healthy for an EFI.... from off idle to about 4500 they pull like a mofo... takes a lot to get 25,000 lb's out of the hole...

A friend of mine has a 35' Egg Harbor that's been repowered with a pair of the 496 MPEFI Mercs, and they sound sooo bad ass. Everytime I hear them start my dick moves a little...
But he does BLOW through fuel like its going out of style :doah:

permanent open loop... :woot:

I'd guess if ya kept your foot out of the skinny pedal ya MIGHT see 15....

yeah, ok, that's not gonna happen... I'm sooooooooooooooooo anxious to torch those 4 KM2's..... but with that cracked leaf and crazy leaf pack, I'm afraid I'll blow the rear out the truck.... :doah:

I've worked on about eleventy thousand of them rig's over the decades... not a horrible boat...

but not without issues... wouldn't take it to the canyon, but I'd go 15 to 20 offshore with it..

that's about as much as ya wanna see BB's pushing.. anything 40+ with some weight, ya really have to start looking diesel...
