Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

yeah, that roller cam stuff is so pricey... I could go full roller for under $200 on the lifters, but ever since they came out with ss rockers I always wanted to try a set...

I figure a quickie go-over on the heads, new springs, cam and rockers should liven it up some...

$1400 later I would hope it helps.

Thats not far from how much I paid to do my roller cam swap on my 355. :doah: :deal:

As far as roller cam TBI motors, as it has been explained to me:
87 and up TBI motors were a crap shoot as to whether or not its a full roller, roller capable, or non roller. It all depends on year, make, model, options, and pixy dust :doah:
My 91 350 is out of a GMC 1500 and its a non roller motor.
The only way to be sure without looking is if you have a TPI from a Vette or a 96 and up Vortec or LT1/LT4.

I just gave it a quickie look with the pen light... my boroscope was at work.. it was definitely flat tappet, but I couldn't see if it had provisions for the spiders.. next time I have the vc off I'll make sure to have my boroscope around...

my recollections, and research of roller motors are for SBCs...all TPI's, some TBI's if used in Special Equipment packages..i.e...9C1 optioned cop cars, netting a 25hp increase, the engine block numbers ending in have been used for rollers, but did not mean they all had them installed...3627, 3638, 4727, 5327, and all LT1 engines, or special equipment optioned trucks with TBI engines after 91, these were hard to really figure what options were needed to dictate the roller engine.
All 96+ passenger car/light truck engines had roller cams.

and yeah, and that's all the SB stuff.. I don't remember hearing the BB side of things...

BBC's from 96+, also used a non adjustable valvetrain.

right, I know that from the boats... me likey that set up...

hmmmmmmmm, Ryoken scheming.......... :haha:

I have a big ass tach like that, only mounted slightly lower on the dash in my 79.

Great minds think alike :waytogo:

Looking good Paul as always. Digging the roller cam plans, roller cams are worth it.

But I can't believe screwed a tach down to that pristine dash pad! :D

somehow I don't think the younger generations appreciate the roller cam tech as much as the old hotrod guys....

after dealing with decades of mediocre flat tappet #'s, the roller profiles where stupid good.... :haha:

off to start leaf spring swap....

btw, EVERYBODY loves this truck, comments daily... they ain't seen nothing yet!!! :haha:

Im 26, and Ive spent almost the last hour on the isky site looking at the roller cam and spring options for my 302.

I'd still like to see the casting numbers and date on your block. I think that is an older block. I have NEVER seen a non roller block used after 1987. Some of them aren't machined for the roller, but they're cast for the roller.

I think he said it didn't have roller cam, nothing about the block not having the provision.
