Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

Paul after hauling around a dog for hours on end multiple times a couple things come to mind:
Easily cleaned flooring....when they gotta go they gotta go, seems inevitable that it will happen, making a quick easy clean floor and a way to keep him from walking it all over is something I always wished I'd had.
Another is a restraint system while in transport. I know Animals tend to take physical punishment better than humans but a restraint harness is something I've thought about a few times when the dog would lose her balance on a turn or sudden braking...whatever, flop on the floor and she'd pop back up and shake it off.
Just a couple thoughts, good luck w the surgery and try to slow yourself down enough to let the healing take place!
Looking forward to the kennel construction

thanks Dave...... good thoughts...... the restraint aspect was something I've been thinking about already... I need to research the possibilites some more....... I have thought about using a harness setup during the day.. and for other training work... just gotta look around at what's out there.....

it's not like he'll be riding around in the back of the black rig, he'll be up front with me.. but I still want to consider a restraint in the cab..... with Mutt, I haven't quite figured out what I think a good restraint would be in the kennel... up front I could use the same setup that I'd run in the front of the black truck...

I had a pulling harness for my Husky that encompasses their ribs/shoulders/chest area real well. I thought that is something that could be made to work?
Maybe Sara has some ideas as well?

yeah, I just wonder what you actually attach to in the vehicle and where... I wonder if they could attach to the shoulder belt? that kinda action, free to move around but the sudden jerk makes it lock up?

not sure where I would do that in Mutt's kennel, I guess maybe near the ceiling, in the center back would be the best spot with the same kinda seatbelt retractor or something..

Google, here I come!! :haha:

and yeah, I'll have to message Sara on FB and see if she has some thoughts on it.....

You should be able to pickup a used rubber bed mat. Who cares if it doesn't fit perfectly?

Ive bought my last few used for $30-40.

I could spend $90 and get the giant rectangle universal one, cut the wheelwells, and have a ton of scrap leftover for other projects, but this would be fine...

You Might Be A CK5'Er If ... you think it's perfectly reasonable to store scrap rubber floormat. :haha:

Notably, I do [think so], and I do [store some, I'm pretty sure]. ..whistle..

:haha: :saweet: :screwy: :woot:

that's what's in the bottom of that lower, jack locker of Mutt, scrap stuff.. and I run it under all my batteries when possible... makes great sound insulators, etc....

On the dog restraint set up, I've got some doodads that basically slip over the lap and shoulder belt and then attach to the dogs harness kind of like the sky mall one Dave posted. However mine are fixed and not adjustable. Has kept my 80-lb Golden Retriever secure many times.

cool, thanks.....

yeah, so far that's the only one I've seen that can attach to the retractable side too... I'm sure I could find a way for it to work in a front seat app.. or even a customized setup in Mutt's kennel.. I'd already been eyeballin aftermarket retractable belts for Mutt after the floor work (don't want harness's)... I'll have to add a 3rd to the list prolly....

this one is perfect.....

I would put that down and forget the carpet over it. Like previously said, easier to rinse out and it will even out the ribs in the bed floor. They hurt the hell out of my knees to kneel on it so it can't feel good for a dog to lay on. If you want to have some carpet, maybe to insulate against the cold/ hot rubber, try one of these entryway rugs. They're cheap, easy to hose off and have just enough pile. I have a 2'x4' rug like this to give my dog some traction and to cushion against the metal deck that folds flat in the back of the Dodge.

And all those restraints are good for is keeping your dog from being thrown through the windshield or out of the car in case of a severe accident. None of them will prevent your dog from bouncing around because they all have to provide enough slack for the dog to move.

since Mutt's hangin out photobombing, figure I'll throw these up here...

my bud stopped by with his shortbed today.....

gonna help him go EFI on it this spring/summer when he can afford it..... just nice to see another square running around...

.

it is... it's got that typical paint falling off the upper flats that the mid 80's where famous for.... got a pretty good "patina" look.... iirc, it's an 86....

seems pretty much rust-free from what I've seen....

he's a cool dude, lives in Bayville... fell in love with Mutt at the car show.... he's been stopping by on sunday's every now and than and we shoot the sh*t for a couple hr's.. he doesn't know a ton, he's a carpenter.. but he did put a drop kit on it and isn't afraid of the work.. just not real sure on the tech stuff.. clueless with EFI and such...

anyway, I like that he's got fullsize rubber on it.. f*ck the low profile sheep approach... he ordered some vette rallies for it since one of those back ones is bent a bit... (I definitely need to get him to ditch the white lettering when he does the new rims!!! ;) )

it could use a bit of stance adjustment, front sits a bit higher than the back......

the fronts are actually rubbing just a bit... he also wants to ditch the saddletank.. we're gonna see if my 77 K5 tank will fit where the spare goes...

.

yeah, me, that thing would be tubbed, linked, mountain mill, yada.... :haha:
