Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

2 lb diet today.....

too bad I just designed a 47 lb tank tray! :doah: :saweet::haha:

tomorrow I'll take the lower strip off, grind/trim it up, and if I'm lucky get it sandblasted and primed by the end of the day... I do need to do like a 4" x 15" patch in the inner rocker... no big..

unfortunately Fazio is only open mon thru fri, so i need a rain day to go get steel.. this design is a bit overkill, but for an extra 13 lb's, MAFW.... ;)

oh, and just a quickie gallon update.. conservatively it looks like it should be around 50 gals.....

got a bit detoured with Kai swim time today at the creek and such....

But I did finishing trimming/removing steel today.. you can see the 12" long patch i need to do to the left... next weekend I'll blast it, fit/grind the new pieces, etc.....

the cavity will be primer, ryo red douche... than when done, I'll spray cavity wax in it from both ends....

got my Fazio list ready.. I'm also picking up square tube to make a mount for the dudge seat into my 92 GMC Blackie....

just did a weigh in, the tank tray should be about 60 lb's... :yikes:  :pimp: :haha:

I'm gonna guess, all-in at the end... dizzle, full 50 gals, finished bed, me and the pup, 9850 lb's....

now where's that fat chick emoji???

why does everything I build turn into an overly complicated, stoooopidly time-consuming endeavor???!!!!? :dunno:  :doah: :1zhelp: :haha:

not rhetorical at all, I really wanna know what my major malfunction is... :screwy:  :haha:

meh, I got nothing on @Greg72 ;)

maybe some pics tomorrow, see how far I get... :doah:

You take on 100 hour projects in the way most people take on an afternoon truck project.... :haha:

I know that feeling. Once you see what you want... it doesn’t really matter that it’s a bunch of extra hours. Just jump in, get started and log the hours until it’s done.

The end result always makes the effort worthwhile.

I had a guy last night asking me to make/sell him my/a bezel...... I was embarrassed to say it wasn't cost-effective as I probably had 75 to 100 hrs in it (conservatively).......

I think they think I'm a kook! :haha:

back to :grind: :hack:

an evil task I had to do that I needed to get over first for this frame project was, I knew I needed to square up the inner corner of the angle so the tank will sit all the way at the bottom with no chafing, etc..... the one side really wasn't needed as the bottom will have a 1/4" rubber strip... but on the sidewall I want the tank relatively close to the wall.. maybe 1/8" or less...

here's how I spent my sunday afternoon...

no Kai, too much grinding dust...... start with a 7" cutoff, flatbladed.... then finished off with a 7" 40 grit flap disc...

i think this is the actual rubber they give you.. it's 2" x 1/4".. really 2 1/2" would be better.. I'll see if I can get that, but 2" would work fine too...

what I'm gonna do is once the tank is installed in the tray, strapped down, etc.... I'm gonna run a bead of caulk in both of those gaps, side and bottom.. the top one, to the sidewall will be more important as I don't want crud and sh*t getting down in between the tank and frame... than a fatter 1/4" bead pumped in around the wider bottom one....

I feel that I don't want to try and add anything chafe-wise on the sidewalls necessarily... just a well-gapped fit... possibly a very thin piece of UMPH slide down in before I caulk the top closed, if there's room.... that's why I want them to have the frame when they build the tank....

now to get to lopping 45's and such.... start burnin chit in....

just to keep track, about 6 wks on the door panels now... I'm hoping for by the end of august.. like to get the doors somewhat buttoned up.. maybe build lowers over the winter....

undecided on rocker work or tray tomorrow... gotta work a couple hrs in the morn test running one.... sunday i'll be with mom...

this yr has been stooopid at the marina.. I'm soooooo swamped.... and beat the fug up... :1zhelp: a couple weeks ago I had 4 repowers, a 350 (reverse rotation ;) ), 2 6.2's and a 496.. and 2 cyl head jobs on my plate.... I plowed thru 2 of the repowers and one head job out the door.... everyone decided to blow their junk up this yr.... :dunno: and getting parts has been a nightmare all yr.. nothing is in stock....

on a blasphemous note, I bring home the turd 2fiddy this week... :o

next week I'll trim/fit the new metals going in, etc......

So what happens when you weld in the new panels? How do you treat that on the inside?

I'll paint all that, and the inside of the rocker with ryo red, than roloc the individual plug weld areas/joints.. weld it up, than give it another ryo red douche in thru the end holes on jet spray... follow up with cavity wax... put body plugs back in..

So what does that do to say the inside roof panels and rockers of my crew cab? Preventative application I guess?

1/2 day today.. got the main rocker mostly trimmed in.. but as with most taiwan stuff, it needs tweaking.. they didn't bend the lower flange enough, so need to homebrew brake that tomorrow...

gonna be rainy, so I wont start burning in till next week...
