Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

Definitely must have tunes in a vehicle.

f*ck it, it was less than $200 shipped..

gonna need to make lower panels this weekend for the speakers... doing em out of the composite i use... I should be able to get the stereo done this weekend too...

the duck may take a few days.. :doah: between painting the duck at night and how many steps the metalwork is gonna take, i don't know..

at this point, it looks like the round flat base, 2 1/4"-20 stud mounting is gonna be nowhere near bolt up... :haha:

extra holes, the peak and shape are all wrong.. could be some sweet fancy moses sheetmetal work going on this weekend...

RF's are nice. The duck is gonna pimp!

i remembered reading awhile back that they made a nice speaker, so i had said to myself I would give em a shot at some point... I know the Sony is a bit more of a gamble probably than a Kenwood, Alpine, etc, but I'll give it a try... should be good enough for now...

I used to run two fosgate HX2 12's sealed on a fosgate 1000 watt bd class monoblock amp in a single cab ford. They were loud as hell and hit everything. We put it on a meter once and it hit 142 db.

I'm over that stage now though. Getting to old for that haha

I Think i would make an adapter type thing. A "pedestal" that the duck would sit on. The bottom of the "pedestal" following the contour of the hood. The top of the pedestal would be flat to match the duck mount.

yeah, that's the first option, just do a molded base..

the other more typical me option would be to reshape the hood.. i'll see on saturday after a couple beers! :haha:

Something like this is what i was thinking.

yup, exactly, maybe a bit of a taper to the sidewalls.. I'd still have a hole back further on the peak to weld up, but the base would cover the existing odd shaped hole for the chevy emblem spring and probably the front mount hole..

and actually, I'll just hand machine it from the composite fiberglass.. probably take an hr or 2 tops...

sold.... :D :deal:

now I gotta get a Great White hood ornament with full working jaws...he can eat bugs on the freeway...

the Mallard has landed....

gonna start working on the mounting tonight.. the model paints should be here tomorrow... bewtween him and the tunes, it should be a fun weekend!

WOW...you got the real thing...it's the perfect piece for that truck...I would leave it just like it is...no painting...the flat black is just perfect.

Fearsome sight pulling up in anybody's rear view mirror....would feel a bit like DUEL.

oh...and to all that posted just before me..."That's what she said"....:haha:

temporarily mounted till I make the base this weekend.. couldn't resist... :haha:

it'll be tipped back a fair amount from how it is now...

and yeah, when i first opened the package I was quite surprised how "substantial" it was..

but I'm quickly thinking, it's the perfect size.... :pimp: :haha:

oh, and LED eye mod? totally doable if I want.. it's actually hollow.. all the way into the head.. tho you really can't see up into the cranial cavity.. it appears it's on average like 3/8" to 1/4 thick overall...

I'll take pics next time it's off...

wow, that is big! awesome though. can't wait to see it painted and mounted.
