Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

the duck will stay facing forward, it can't spin, it has 2 1/4 -20 studs side by side.. you can see em in that first pic i posted... and to cover the back hole would make the spacer shaped funky....

I just assumed you could build the spacer to look good and cover the rear hole, resulting in less rework. You don't seem to mind spraying paint though, so it really isn't a big deal.

it'll actually be easier to spot the hood in probably.. :haha: the smaller, round slug i can just whack out with a holesaw in 30 seconds, the other would be kinda eggshaped or so, and the shaping would take way longer.. plus it'd force the duck up a bit higher too....

I should start handpainting it tomorrow night... :woot:

Duck needs red eyes that glow brighter with a dial inside the cab for when people make you angry, or simply go higher with the rpm.

Run it off the dimmer for the dash lights, or a second dimmer. Easy.

Did I mention in a past life I went to school for an EE, have permanent solder scars on at least two appendages, and a better component stock in my house than most Radio Shacks? :haha:

I might be wrong but at least with the dash lights, don't you lose the ability to dim when you used LED bulbs? unless you design and build a separate resistor?

Depends on how the circuit is, yeah. Some of the fancy LED's, which could include your bulb-replacement types, have a constant-current circuit that means you can run them off 8V, 12V, 15V, doesn't matter. They therefore have the same brightness regardless.

Your regular normal boring LED with a series resistor is simpler, and requires a minimum of 1.5-2.5V to turn on, at which point more voltage = more current = brighter.

Looks killer!

Did you do a mounting base?

After seeing it, with white bloodshot eyes, i say skip the LED's. You'll loose how badass it is in the day.....and really, at night, all people will see is 2 red dots, not the rest of the duck.

Maybe led accent lights on the hood so we can see it at night too.:waytogo: It looks great.

yup, it was my original concern... it would make the eyes look stupid during the day.. I have other thngs that need my attention anyway, like a tubebed... :doah::grind::weld:

no, i did not do the base yet, i'll do that on the weekend.... gonna bring the nose up just a tad, still with the bird of prey thing going on, just so his body is more in line with the hood angle..

I also started the stereo install tonight... had to make a mounting plate out of composite.. hopefully that'll be in the dash tomorrow...

thanks guys, I dig him.... :haha:

I know some guys are looking at this and not getting it, thinking it's stupid looking, etc..... well, it's something different fo sure......

I think when the rig has the tubebed, etc, in the end, the Mad Mallard will be right at home... :pimp: :haha:
