Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

why doesn't Mutt have a windshield mounted rearview mirror?

In this case, it would have been useless with the giant rack on the back that Issam kept... and I can see a cab/chassis coming thru without it, but this was supposed to just be a CC, formerly having a bed on it I suppose...

I'm guessing it did come factory with the big trailering door mirrors that where on it when i got it... but I'm perplexed why none on the windshield..

it's gonna get one, it annoys me that it doesn't have it... even when I do the tubebed in the summer, it'll still be very usable.. I have one kicking around, just need to glue it on...

actually if anyone is feeling helpful, I could use a mesh from the upper weatherstrip edge, down to the mount... 6"? 8"?

I've got one too, if you don't find yours.

I can measure when i get home.

BUT, have you considered going Gentex and getting auto dim, temp, and compass?

They aren't that expensive. The compass isn't worth anything, but the temp and autodim kick ass.

thanks.. I was looking around a bit at the aftermarkets a couple yrs ago trying to come up with something for the K5.. still up in the air about that... I should probably go research em some.. wouldn't mind a wider one in Mutt if it wasn't retardo looking...

actually the one i'm gonna use is pretty crappy.. it's the old k5 one, and the mirror is pretty sh*tty, but it'll get the job done..

Gentex makes just about every stock one on the market. You can buy them off ebay for cheap. The compass and autodim ones need power, ground, and reverse to function properly (undim in reverse).

Otherwise, just power/ground.

You need the temp probe and harness to do the temp one, which is what i did. Info in my build thread. Only main difference is with mine, i needed a different button glued into the window to hang it on.

No big deal.

The 2000+ ones you could get temp/compass above each other in the little screen. That is my favorite. The 90's ones has a one line screen.

$40 + the temp probe is pretty sweet. One of my favorite small mods in my truck.

thanks, yeah, i just took a quick ebay peak...

and actually, I just want a nice clean, possibly oversized mirror.. no fancy power things, don't want wires to it... just an oldschool flip knob for the douchebags... :haha:

I don't necessarily mind bright, it's the obvious "I'm an idiot who doesn't realize my highbeams are on" folks... :haha:

The bottom of it should be right about 6"

rearview is one of the first things to be removed in most of my vehicles. I screwed the one for the burb to the interior trim above the windshield only because the GF wanted it when she drives and I didnt feel like glueing it back up. I friggin hate them. Dont really know why they bug me,,,,, they just do:haha:

I just glued mine back on last night. I finally changed my glass.
The PO had it really high up. Like 2" down.

I put the mount right at the top of the antenna where it splits.About 4" or so.
When the mirror is mounted the bottom of the mirror is in line with the bottom of the visor tint.

When I sit there and look back it feels right to me.

you just reminded me.. i was thinking about it today as a matter of fact while getting blinded by the sun.. I've got the old visors from the K5 to go in there too, as I plan on customs in the K5 with the cage and all, if i run em at all...

but Mutt has nothing up there now that i took that stupid shelf down.. maybe i'll dig those out and mount em up this weekend, than glue the mirror.... i just can't remember what color those visors where, hope they where black... :doah: eh, if not colorcoat.. :haha:

Mine where white from GM not sure it they started doing matching color upper trim in later models. I had colorcoat all of mine gray to match.

my hemming and hawing on when to get to seats/console was getting old with no drink holder/console, pens down the seat, etc, so fock it, works till next winter.... :pimp:

I had that exact cup holder, Paul! :D
It's a pretty great unit, for the cost.

Hell, only reason I don't have one now, is I put stuff where it used to be. :haha:

These are good, too.
So long as you screw 'em down. :D

eh, 1 day, i'll go look around first.. I've got the money. i was kinda hoping $30 or less, but I could "not shoot myself in the temple" for $25 to 30... :haha:

yeah, i'm definitely gonna go buckets... PRP street series... in the same exact color and material package aS the K5 buckets.. Ryoken red and black... just the low side street version..

so i can have the low center window in the expanded steel divider for Malachi.. I may use ammo cans or something down the middle.. not sure. or a I could even use the old, original first composite piece in the K5, console.. I also wanna twinstick the 205 too at some point..

I'd just have to figure something out for the auto shifter spot.. hmmm, maybe a cb sideways or something... better yet, maybe a switch panel for the rear winch... :pimp:
