Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

Hey Paul,
i forgot to mention, the parts in boxes that were in the dash, are the one I took off the truck, and looked like nothing was wrong with them, and the pickup module that goes inside the dizzy is actually new, I didn't need to change it so I just included it.
First thing I suggest you do is put some new gas in it and check timing, when he was driving it up on the trailer it was spinning the tires pretty bad and couldn't get up, so I told him to put it in low gear, but it felt like there was hesitation, like timing is off.

yeah, I've already started going over some stuff since getting off work.. I'll go thru the mechanicals this week.. they had some pretty hokey wiring going on.... I figure I could have it roadworthy by next monday easy enough... gonna need at least 4 tires to get thru inspection tho..

couple things I was very glad to see was hydroboost and the second battery tray... tho I may relocate the bat/s at some point anyway...

Oh I didn't tell you it has the second battery trat even though it's not a diesel?
But you know all 1 tons after 83 maybe even earlier had hydroboost.
So it's not a surprize there.
So other than electrical and no idea how you feel the mechanical is.
How is the body?
Was I accurate enough with my description?

yeah, it's fine..... the front doors are a little rough, but that's ok, mudboggin has a VERY clean pair with standard mirrors for $150 I'm gonna pick up......

gotta see if i have a pair of fuel fills at work from a boat.. i'll run them thru the flatbed..

just spent a couple hrs degreasing and scrubbing down the motor/engine compartment.. tomorrow night I'll go over how it's running and start on the flatbed...

sooooo. been bangin on this the last few nights.... plodding thru LOT'S of maintenancey, cleaning, etc.... ancient piss oil change done... entire truck drivetrain degreased with easy-off and hot water... motor, 205, x-members, etc, etc...

changed the 465 fluid from ATF to Mercruiser performance gear oil... :haha:

bunch of exhaust leaks to deal with... trans mount had no bolts in it... :eek1: runs a ton better now that the firing order is right... still has a bit of what I refer to as the voot, voots... not spinning up right... but at least it stopped shooting fireballs out the tb now... :haha: new plugs... tomorrow night I'll check timing, forgot my light today... new belts and cap/rotor tomorrow too probably..

been hacking out a bunch of wires to nothing stuff.... chopped the frame and started laying out the temp bed... i'll finish that this weekend, maybe get the new back springs in... gotta figure out some fills for the saddle tanks after the bed is on...

That teaches me to trust anyone with even the simplest tasks, I told my friend that he should check the sequence on the intake, but I didn't check back to see if he did it right.

As for the tanks, the pipes that are crossing over were coming from the pass side to driver side, both fillups were on the driverside, I don't remember which one it is but the tank that was on when you got it is the one with the good fuel pump, never did change that other pump.
I am sure you can test it to confirm it is bad, but it was running like crap on that side and finally wouldn't run and when I switched it back it ran.

hey bud.. yeah, the tanks are a bit voodoo at this point other than throwing 10 gals of fresh fuel in each.... and somewhat fixing that cut fill hose, x-overy set up to keep sh*t out... once the deck is on, i'll do a fill on both sides and ditch the tube..

and ok, cool, i'll check out the pumps, haven't even looked at either.... i did switch the dash switch at one point, but I'm not sure which position it was in.... i ran it a bunch tonight tho... not even sure what tanks it was off of... i don't know d*ck about dual tank systems.. first I've owned.. and I'll be ditching it by the end of the summer.... i'll just figure out which tank/pump is working and ditch the other side alltogether... i don't need the capacity now...

and yeah, #5 and #7 where crossed... haha, the injector harness/plugs are pretty freakin toasty at this point... i'm gonna splice in new injector plugs pretty quick...... water temp sender is busted.... i'll get one of those tomorrow too...

hey..... wtf is that slideknobby box thing under the column with the light on? :haha:

super clean frame and underbody..... i mean it needs some sanding/blasting but solid as he!!.... i may use my old K5 flat hood... this ones got this goofy crack in the sheetmetal in the front.. never seen one do that before.. very fixable, but i may just use my other clean one with the fuel pressure gauge on it...

oh, pm with what overnight tracked costs when that comes in, i WILL send you money for it... need to retire the Nogo pronto... :haha:

Gotta subscribe to see what kinda of OCD masochist hell you're going to unleash on this truck :waytogo:  ;)

it's gonna see f*cktons of labor, and coin, the next 3, 4 months till sh*t's somewhat where i want it to be...

my big issue at this point is tires.... it really needs 4 for inspection... so i think i'm just gonna get the 4 cheapest 235/85/16's i can get... than finalize the lift/x-over/37's over the fall/winter... just sucks it's gonna be $600 for temp tires...

and yeah, you'll see some labor-intensive OCD stuff, fo sure! :doah: :haha:

Did you find the clean injector harness I tossed in the truck, I told you it was and that is why I sent this one with it.
The underdash thingy you talking about, would that be the brake controler by any chance?
And I didn't even notice until the truck was going on the trailer, it still has the original radio. If you end up like I think you will, tossing it for a good headunit, let me know. Mine doesn't have anything in it.:D
Where is the water temp sender?
How is it busted?
You will definitely find a lot more than I did because I barely drove it, was planning on tossing the BBC for a turbo diesel so all I cared about was the 1ton running gear and the clean body, well now you have those.:thumb:
Make me proud.

oh, 15 hrs or so of labor in the 3 days i've had her... ;)

ah, yeah, i know bud... it was definitely a bought/parked thing... i'm all over it already...

yeah, brake controller, okay that makes sense... i haven't even been under the dash yet... or in the parts boxes.. forgot about the plugs, i'll go down and spy that stuff now...

yeah the sender just has the end busted off, didn't see the wire.. no big, i'll straighten all that stuff out..

the one thing i'll let slide till the heat of aug and such is a new compressor, that bitch is locked up pretty good...

found the plugs, thanks Issaam...... apparently on the trip, the glovebox latch exploded and it's contents, parts, bumper bolts, etc went everywhere... i found the clean plug assembly up under the dash behind the glovebox... :haha:

btw.... the truck showed up about 1:30 on monday on a regular single flatbed... bald guy Issam? said he was from Clifton.. SUPER heavy accent, maybe Greek? couldn't understand a damn word he said... :haha: he liked the truck...

Just FYI, I put 285 75 16's on my truck stock and paid 675 for the set of mastercraft coursers and love them.
