the purple stuff? could be, I don't know, never bought it... it certainly didn't seem discolored.. and obviously a nuisance to remove...


I understand it was an Arizona truck or something and probably needed tint.. I just always thought the purple was kinda ghey looking...

I only ran film on one car back in the day.. and did some custom mixed sprayed ones...

I definitely want to fab some metal screens for the back door windows.. so the pooch can have plenty of air, without fear of stupid humans, etc...
 
I am so jealous of your ability to just strip and paint something in a weekend. I know it comes after years and years of experience but I'm still jealous. :P
 
thanks, it's tools and materials too... was loving the blast cabinet today for the crusty latch mechanisms.. soak/brush em in a tray of thinner.. than stick em in the cab, looked brandy new...

tho I need new weatherstrip and handle gaskets for those back doors bad...

I thought I was f*cked when I went sandblast the jambs and nooks/crannies... the ceramic tip in my HF blaster was busted... but luckily I had one kicking around...

it's not the ideal way, I go wet on wet with the zinc/fill.. than just a quick scuff for paint... NO bodywork... and dings will need to be addressed before a final overcoat..

but.... it looks good running down the road... and as a DD'er, expediency is critical.. having the panels painted, and dry come sunday morn was/is vital...
 
yep..that looks much better all one color...the two shades was pulling some kind of trick on the eyes...it looks like a brand new truck now. looks like you blacked your wheels again

and it's just wet there.. rinsed off the sanding dust...

NP I got a set from him.
The ones I got from LMC have already cracked and it's garage kept.

Big improvement. Before and after pics are very rewarding. Make you feel like you got something to show for all that hard work.
 
I'd heard that tint turns purple as a result of using ammonia-based cleaners on it (Windex etc)... I'm not sure modern tints are impervious to ammonia now, but in the old days it was an issue.

Truck is looking amazing Paul! :bow: I really like the way this build happens on a real-life, everyday work truck..... You use it all week, then pull it into the lab Friday night, do some mad-scientist stuff on it and by Monday its rolling back to work with some kind of new modification completed.

Way better than those jackstand builds IMHO! :)

thanks bud... :D

the one that'll push that "in the Lab fri, work mon morn" to the limit logistically, will be the tubebed..

first weekend will be moving the flips, lopping the frame and getting a new x-member/winch mount in...

than about 160' of 2" DOM the following weekends.... :haha:

came out of Rite Aid this afternoon, walking across the parking lot looking at Mutt and realized it's just screaming for the tubebed.. :whistle: :doah: :haha:

must have patience... :doah:
 
I kinda think the weekend projects is the way to do it, it's way too easy to get burned out on a long term project

Nothing more motivating than seeing the end in a short term project and being able to go out and enjoy it

I've been doing small things here and there on my DD and it's nice to appreciate it everyday when I walk out to my truck
