only 3 months behind on this project...


funny thing was, I got 6 sticks of 2", and 3 sticks of 1.5... for a total of 207' for $868... so roughly about $4.50 and $4 a foot... damn good price I felt..

I was gonna add a stick of 1.75 to the order, it was $223 a stick!!!! like $10 a foot!!! she said it depends on which supplier, batch, etc.. I passed on it as I have about 10' kicking around already...


plan is to rip the balsa stage off this weekend, get the mounts made up and maybe start on the center section, or what I'm calling the "coffin" aspect of the tube work...

that is a great price for retail stuff Paul...I think I got mine for just under $5/ft for 1.75 DOM...and that was through a commercial customer price.

got any sketches of the planned architecture?

this is the general idea minus a few right/upper tubes..... the lower boxes will be compartments made the same as the ss drawers above that...

orange is 2".. blue is 1.5 and white will be 1" solid...

the tailgate and whole back will be 2" too.. but that pic is incorrect... the gate will be more like this...

My upper link material (2" x 0.250" DOM) was over $12 a foot. There be no industry in SE Ga, so the steel supplier had to order it.

iirc, my last tube order 4 or 5 yr's, I was paying like $5.50 to 6.25 for 1.5 and 2... I know this was a fair bit cheaper... pleasantly surprised...

I should really call the tool drawer place and get a price on that stuff ballpark.. I'm figuring about 2 g's for the 6 boxes, but who knows...

the alum sheets are like $450 a piece, and I need 2...


being 3 months behind has kinda changed this project a bit... it'll prolly be next may by the time I have it done done with the gooseneck, new fuel tank, boxes, etc...

got vacay in sept, but I wanna at least get the tube work done by say, oct... before cold weather sets in as I have to work on Mutt mostly outside.. hopefully august will be a kick butt month...

same with joysey actually for DOM tube.. I go thru marmon keystone in Delaware... free shipping too...


I lost my plate, flat stock, angle guy tho.. my welder bud sold his biz... now I'm gonna have to go out to fazzio steel for that stuff.. hopefully they have the 1" solid round I need for this, as I haven't sourced that yet...

well, unfortunately, I had to go to work today for 6 hr's to test run and button up a pair of 496's I built for a Sundancer, so I didn't get much done today...

tomorrow I start on the rear winch mount/x-member by lopping 4"s off the rails and bringing it flush to the flips...

the cheapie shocks didn't like Joysey salt...


contemplating having the guy who sodablasts our boat bottoms blast the whole back section real quick down at the marina... he'll prolly do it for like $150... just not sure I feel like blasting it myself, such a messy ordeal here at the house..... wasn't going to at all, but it'd be nice to start with clean rails...

either way, I start chopping/fabbing steel tomorrow.....

the one we built out in the woods in Pennsy had 24' of steel of pipe on one side and real pool cope on the other...


thanks.. I need to be patient and do the winch mount, and bed mounts first before I play with the tube... kinda anxious to get to some of the mitered tube work, as I've never done that before..

it's not something I'm worried about practicing on really... most will be 90's.. but with the ones that aren't, I'll just make a couple practice cuts on some small scrap to make sure the angle is right..

it's more just anxious to see how that fab technique affects the look, etc...
