Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

Good. Cause those points could be dangerous!
I like the rounding idea, and agree it could be dangerous too. Imagine coming around the corner of the truck with a heavy load and catching that right in the back. :eek1: No thank you!

How does that primer compare to say the Rustoleum Etching stuff on the shelf at Lowes? Ive used etching primer for years, going to duplicolor (because everything they make is watered down crap) to the rustoleum. Ive always had good results but wonder how much better this stuff is.

Also does it dry fast or is it a walk away over night deal?

There's nothing like the Ryoken Green Zinc primer....I think I used the Moeller brand from AircraftSpruce. It's a very unique product.

And I can also testify that when it comes to rattlecan anything, nothing is better than SEM...it's worth the extra cost. The cans are bigger, and the product is superb...best in a can...:waytogo:

on second thought.. not sure if I'm gonna do that.... it'll be by far the most work... was gonna do it in the smaller 1.5...

but I also have the option of just a couple verticals too...

but now I'm also considering nothing, and just filling the section with the same tab/alum panel plan I have for the rest of the bed...

that's prolly the smartest option.. help keep anything in the bed from falling out too...

I like it!
I'd hold off on the "x" too. plating it makes more sense atm, and if you change your mind you can do the "x" after everything is on... the gate is removable afterall. :)

thanks and great point..... plenty of other stuff to do... just got done final welding the coffin...

tomorrow, I'm gonna bolt it back on the rig and start bending tube.... :woot:

will do... trying to get a full 3 days in on it this weekend cuz I go on my fishing trip next week...

decided I'm gonna get the coffin in primer tomorrow prior to mounting it up, just in case I don't get it pulled off before I leave..

but I'm anxious to get the 2 main outer tubes bent up, get some definition to the bed...... :woot:

Love the video..... Like someone snuck a hidden camera into the "lab" and got some spy shots! :waytogo:

Is that the floor level?

Wait, you'd have to elevate the sides for the storage boxes. Think I see it now.

right.. those are the upper main side tubes, above the tool boxes... (in orange here)

the ones below will be 1.5"....

bending the other side up now....

thanks... gonna be a few weeks before I'm back on it with the upcoming fishing trip...

but I'm stoked on where it's heading, and will be at it hardcore when I return... :deal:

not much to show this weekend, spent most of the weekend putting away camping/boat stuff and pulling a couple stumps in the yard...

but I did clean up, prime and mount the coffin for a winters worth of weather, it's about as heavy as I can handle by myself right now... it's probably gonna stay on Mutt thru the winter till it's near completion in the spring..

at that point, I'll bring it down to the marina and pick it off with the Lull, so I can final paint it and blast/prime/paint the frame...

so I'm set up for 2 whole days of fab next weekend... should be able to get those prior outer tubes done and maybe get started on the 1.5 lower stuff....

Looks good so far Paul!
and now that you are back...have you had any trouble with the oil pressure in your 454 since you changed the pump, and what is the psi at idle hot?
