Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

eh, I have to make it work.. or at least work somewhat... not gonna sit there and try to explain why it's not the factory foot pedal..

if the one I have is gonna fit Mutt's box, I'm not gonna call and bother him.. if it's not right, and I need to buy a different kit, i'll wait till next fall before inspection, call him and talk to him about the situation..

It's just a cable and a caliper it will need to travel x amount. Making the stock pedal should be super ( time consuming) easy:D

for those that have driveline e-brakes.......

do you think the factory foot pedal could operate that with some efficiency?

I'm gonna need one at some point... I actually have the one on the 205 in the K5, including the flange.. think it's what I'd need for Mutt... thinking about cannibalizing it and starting to see what's needed to get it in...

but I REALLY want to use the factory pedal for fooling joysey sticker Nazi's..... even if I need to/can figure out a way to compound leverage the cable down below or something.. but I would think you could put a pretty good pull on that with the foot/leg..

thoughts?

I have the HAD parking brake on my 205 hooked up to the factory pedal, works just fine. It doesn't feel quite like the old drum parking brake, which got progressively tighter as you press down. This just goes for a while and then bang, it's latched ... but it holds.

The only weirdness I have is the Detroit in the back has a bit of play, so when I set the brake, there's a hint of wiggle (I live on a hill.) Once the Detroit sets itself, though, the truck ain't going anywhere.

That is an absolute BEAST!!!

That's got to make other drivers nervous when you pull up behind them...:eek1:

awesome, thanks.. that's how I figured it would work.. which is fine..

I bet with a bit of engineering and some small arms on a pivot out at the caliper, a compound system could be achieved to simulate that progressive facrory feel..

I use the factory pedal in mine Paul. It took a little breaking in before the pads on the driveline brake held that well. Factor in the Detroit too and it took a little time to feel confident with it...Seems to hold very well though.

thanks... so in my cleaning of the Lab™

I've come across most of the parts...

but I'm still on the hunt for the last part.. it's the bracket off the back of the 205 that that caliper bolts to.. basically a couple standoff's welded to a piece of steel iirc...

been quite a while since I was working on that...

I may be calling Jesse after all if I can't find it... maybe I can go dig up a pic of it so I actually know what I'm looking for... :doah: :haha:

nope, never got that far...

guess I'll go take a peak at that AWESOME website of HAD for one....

I can see it now, I'll be tearing apart the house/Lab™ looking for it for the next 2 days... :haha:

Ask and thy shall receive. I picwhore for this very reason, since my memory is basically shot any more.

On mine, it's a flat bracket with two pieces of tubing behind it. Note the countersinks in the holes on the ... err, outer?... face.

tanky...

bingo.. :woot:

after 1.5 hr's of rummaging thru boxes, bins and buckets, found it hanging on a random nail on the wall behind a circular saw blade.... :doah: :haha:

mine's flat on the other side tho, no counterstinks...

Because circular saws and car parts go together :haha:

Apparently Jesse has changed it over the years. Mine the tubes aren't tacked to it, they're just loose. :dunno:

The other thing I vaguely recall is having to clearance it for the flange, but maybe that's something specific to my '205. (Though I thought basically all rear outputs were alike, but what do I know.)

Anyway, you can figure that out, I think you know how to use a grinder :deal:

I've been a silent observer for a while Paul, and now I gotta say Kerts wheels look as great on your truck as they did on his...nice blending of parts and your fab work going on!

thanks guys... makes me miss driving it... :doah: :haha:

got the Lab™ cleaned up, and the 1.5 die loaded up and ready for work... next available time will be lower tube work and figuring out the gooseneck mounting....

tho the gooseneck will more than likely have to wait for me to pull the tubebed back off for final welding... can't drill holes in the top rail with it on there...
