Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

that's the plan... ;)

caught 2 people taking pics of it today with their cellphones, WHILE they where driving... :eek1: me thinks I'm gonna cause a pile up... :doah: :haha:

and had a heep guy follow me home tonight to ask me about it..

Back when I had the Chalet, stopping at the gas station invariably took 20-30 minutes because people would always stop and ask "What IS that thing?"

I actually carried a laminated card in the glovebox with the details and pix, in case I was busy pumping gas :haha:

oh... and I may end up chopping the fang and moving the axle back up... it does get into the fender just a tad here and there when flexing thru a turn...

You're rubbing on the backside of the fender?

quick hijack

I'm doing a 1 inch body lift in addition to the 4 inch hd springs and ezinch with 1 inch forward. Think I'll clear? I'm also planning some fairly aggressive bumpstops and I'll be running the sway bar.

yup, just catches in the back on turns into some driveways, etc....

I'm on 6" superlifts up front and a 1" ez inch, forward 1"... should have left it at 1.5" like I originally put it, and just cut the front fang off...

it's not like I'm flexing it out, not too much up travel at this point I'm guessing.... when I get some time I'll find a spot to flex it out and see what I need to do...

now.... up 1"

how it was at 1.5"

With the fang cut off the 1.5" forward will look just as good. So I would cut the fang and go 1.5. With it still there it's a reference point. Not there the reference point moves further away. So moving it forward just a hair will make it still look centered

yup, with the fang gone, it'll lose a lot of that wheelwell center point look....

I should point out it's not hitting horrible, and relatively infrequent, but.. this IS just street driving..

also, cutting the fang off will motivate me to build a front bumper... :haha:

The stock bumper does look nice - but unless you are willing to do some fancy bodywork - once you start cutting - the bumper looks a little strange.

I'm excited to see the plans for the new bumper :D

I think the stock front bumper it looks good.

it does... and being I'm not gonna run a front winch, I was very content to leave it on there, for quite some time..... one less part to fab.. but.......

exactly... once you cut that fang off, the sides get a little funny looking.. I'm thinking a combo of tube and plate... a main tube, lower angled tubes, than some pushbar type, vertical plates to help protect the mallard..

something like what Kert had on the CC, but with the lower part being tube, not plate... but it is pretty low on the priority list at this point..

nice wheels.

AWESOME truck Ryoken!!!! :bow::bow::bow:

thanks guys! gotta see when I can swing a spare tire purchase, might be a few weeks... but I can at least get the spare rim thru primer and color so it's ready...

on a semi-related note... tho it looks like it may be a bit before I get alum welding capability to do the side doors, I'm hopeful the side drawers will actually show in the next week or 2...

so... kinda in a "hold" mode until after Stevie's wedding, part purchasing wise... thus kinda labor-wise too...

I did paint the spare rim today, after the wedding, I'll get the tire.. and get going on the sides, etc..

but since I had the Ryoken red out today, I decided to repaint my hood gauge, and make the ring more matchy matchy, over the stock silver it was...

oh, excuse the rest of the rig, I actually washed it off first thing this morn, that's how much pollen fell just today.... EVERYTHING around here is green! :eek1: :doah: :haha:

I like it. Luckily its rained here most of the weekend, so hopefully that pollen wont hit so hard....

so, I've just gotta say....

I'm an old hotrodder, I've had some pretty cool cars, Cuda's, Chevelles, etc... but the public response this vehicle has gotten has blown any of them, and me, away... by a mile...... :eek1:

I just came out of the supermarket, and had 5 various dudes who didn't know each other, till than, hanging out, waiting for the owner of Mutt to come out.. to ask questions about it and tell me how badarse it is...

and as a builder, my first reaction is to be apologetic for it not being done yet... and explain what it still needs... :doah: :haha:

they don't care.. absolutely blown away by what's already there...

I think that "presence" term may be more appropriate than I thought... EVERYWHERE the rig goes, thumbs up, stares, honks and blown away praise...

I had a new marina customer, old-time welder/wrought iron fence builder guy, come up to me the other night and tell me that it was pure art, and shake my hand.. :o

I'm always exceptionally thankful for people taking the time to appreciate it... I must admit, sometimes the praise is a bit embarrassing, but I'm grateful people get a kick out of it...

and the rig is performing absolutely awesome..

thanks... :D it's a bit different with you guys.... you guys are truck builders too, look at ton's of projects, etc, and are harder to impress....

Joe the average plumber down the street, not so much.. :haha:

I just didn't realize the attention the rig was gonna garner... :doah: it's a bit over the top compared to what I expected... I just wanna drive the rig I envisioned.. if peope like it, cool....

I didn't realize I was gonna come out of the store to a circle of fans or something... :haha:

Just be glad we all don't live in your town, you would never be able to get rid of us.
