Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

I'm ok with it, just want a decent one, this thing was pretty fresh.... I certainly don't baby the rig, but come on, 2 yr's, 15,000 miles?

actually, I flog it pretty hard.... :haha:

the rubber looks fine, it's the cr@ppy china/taiwan metal brackets that failed...

it's ALWAYS sooooo hit or miss with who the parts guy's supplier is.. this is a Napa.. generally they are pretty good... and CAN, get you different brands if need be, beyond house brand stuff..... not that I asked last time...

but with a somewhat oddball one like a trans mount, I hope he actually gives me a choice of mannys tomorrow..

"gimme the most expensive one you can find.." :haha:

hopefully it get's rid of the slight vibe at highway speed and saves me from having to take the spring pack apart again.. other than that, Mutt is just KILLING it.... :eek1:

I honestly can't tell you guys the heads this rig turns.. I made the mistake of stopping at Dairy Queen for an ice cream last night.. probably 40 to 50 people hangin, musta spent 30 minutes, talking to all the dad's with questions about the rig ... :doah:  :haha:

at least you still have a NAPA....I went there last weekend and everything was normal..I went back this weekend and the entire building was cleaned out and even the signs on the the building are gone...vanished without a trace....now I have to drive 15-20 miles to get to a NAPA

for me, it's either that, or Vatozone.. and I REFUSE to buy hard parts from Vato on principal...

Napa isn't a be all, end all.. I've had much better parts place before, being a mechanic, I order lot's o' stuff..... had 4 or 5 manny options, etc, etc from more mom & pop places......

I'm actually kinda grateful I found that.. be an easy fix to the slight issue...

NAPA was the last parts store that when you walk in you see parts, belts, chemicals. The other ones are 90% fartcan accessories and what little parts they have are behind the counter out of your sight

oh yeah, they've definitely always tried to somewhat maintain their integrity... at a bit of a cost increase..

but even with them, you have to watch what you're getting.. sometimes the price/bottomline win's out over customer joy.. at least till they start b*tchin... :haha:

why don't you like the 'zone? i have one near me and haven't had a problem yet. I do get stuff from Napa as well, since we deal with them at work.

"gimme the most expensive one you can find.." :haha:

My Tcase was doing the same thing. Made a really crappy noise flopping around in 4wd:haha:

The funny thing is, you can get at a mount from just about any trans out there.

I forget the details, but i think any 3/4 or 1 ton from the 90's is the same mount. And that means, for $50 or so, you can get a bitchin acdelco one from the dealer too.

Only part i've bought at a dealer in like 10 yrs, but that is the way i went when i got mine.

let me see if i can find a part number.

Edit:

Here's a quote when i had the issue from a member

A little late to the party but poly on a trans isn't great. Whole truck will buzz. And I refuse to use Chinese junk so a little tip for ya: your current trans mount is exactly the same up to 2012 in full size trucks.
700, 4L60, 4L80 etc all the same.
Try GM part# 15750514 or 15113134. Both are the same thing.
I have 15750514 on my '89 Blazer.

I don't like vato cuz of the whole chain/corporate principal.... I'm an oldschool mechanic who grew up with mom & pops... I like my parts guys to know something about car's/mechanical, not a 16 yr old cutie as a part time job after school punching on a keyboard...

that said, I will use them for chemicals, consumables here and there... did buy a tire pressure gauge there a couple weeks ago..

iirc, my guys can get ac delco... gonna check on it today..

Had a kid at oreillys on sat trying to get me to use windshield silicone on my intake because it was "water resistant".... :haha:

I do love the local places. Just not many around and a long drive generally.

Is that a reflection I see in the diff cover? Schnazzy! Looks good.

And I agree, I don't like autozone because I don't like replacing their junk every year, even if I do get a free one from warranty. I stopped using them years ago. I'd rather have a part that lasts than a lifetime warranty.

so, I learned a couple things today....

#1 - after a very brief convo with one of our haulers, it looks like I'll more than likely have to wait till I reg the vehicle commercial before putting on a lightbar... you need to have a permit for it.... to even be on there apparently.. with a yellow a sticker next to your inspection sticker...

I'm assuming to get the permit, you need to be commercial.... apparently you have fill a form out stating for what reason you need it, and a nominal fee...

#2 - I'm apparently stooooopid... :doah: there actually doesn't appear to be anything wrong with my mount...

after looking at a NEW china one, it's exactly the same... that's how it sits..... :doah: :haha:

but..... here is how that shaft comes thru the carrier bearing retainer... you can definitely see it angling up, not so much with the pic angle, but you can see it well live......

not a great pic, but that circled area is where the skid is actually rubbing/wedged on the 205... and I don't think the skid or cross member are bent....

I think I may try shimming the trans up... 1/4" plate on the bottom and top of that mount... go up a 1/2".... :dunno:

also what's with the later 205's and these rubber plugs? that's where I'm leaking from.. iirc (been awhile), my older one has alum plugs you drive in or similar? :dunno:

GTFO of here..... you serious?

Be leary of the tranny mount. My old one looked just fine...

When i replaced it just for the heck of it, holy crap what a difference :eek1:

No more slamming noises when putting in gear.

Dead serious.

it isn't so much a bangin, bad mount.. it's the height of the set up affecting my angles... it seems the t-case needs to move up some... I'm gonna try it Saturday with some spacer plates and see if it helps the vibe.. otherwise, I'll be shimming the axle......

The light bar must be a Jersey deal, I've got one I'll put on my truck for following our equipment down the road. My last truck it was permanent mounted and never a problem. Here you can use a light bar wherever flasher use would be legal.

oh, I'm not surprised at all in Naziville... I do wanna ask my local LEO friend about it tho to make sure...

gotta call and b*tch about my spare tomorrow.. should have been here by now... alum welding stuff is now on the way too...

I knew you'd need a permit from dmv to use the lights. That's why I asked if you wanted them or needed them. You could run the truck and tow stuff privately w/out the overheads. You'd have to register the truck commercial if you're towing commercially all the time. Did he say the lights are required then?

no, only for oversized loads is it required.... I think it'd look good up there even if not in use, but I can wait till commercial if need be.. no big...

spare is in, yay... maybe pics tonight...

another piece of the puzzle....
