Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

I dont think its so much unappreciation as it lack of fans. We forget that unfortunately 60-80% of the "offroad" guys drive IFS 1/2 tons with 35s on the road daily to work, and they tend to be on the younger side of the scale. So in the majority of those circles, it seems 20in Rockstars, truck nutz, Monster stickers and hardcore "MTs' create the big raves online, not the harder core that we have come to expect on this site. Most of your typical interested in Mutt type fans are older, less likely to use the net as often, and so on. They IMO are usually the ones who stop and chat, turning a 15 min trip into the hr that was mentioned earlier. We are just a much much less populated part of the offroad community. Then add in the fact that Mutt is "old" and obviously junk regardless of look simply because its "old', and viola.

I personally love the build. I have always been interested in it, as well as the Blazer.

thanks.. and ya know, that makes sense.. in the real world too... I wont pidgeon-hole who compliments the rig, as it does range from 9 yr olds to 90... but yeah, a lot of the 20 to 30 motometalers are just not into it as much as the crusty 50sumfins....... now if it was stacks, homometals, etc....

but I have had some who broke that mold.. I have one guy at my deli that I "caught" taking pics of Mutt.... :haha: he's like 25 to 28 and has an 80's yota that he wants to do... of course he wanted to hire me.... I turn it down at least a couple times a week...

tonight I had to stop at the surgical supply store after work to pick up another wrist brace for my "good" carpal tunnel hand.. buy it, walk out, get in Mutt... sales guy comes running out the door... "that rig is cool, yada... " :haha:

I'm just relieved that my design work is being dug by a good amount of people.... it was really cool to me in my brain, nice to see others think so too...

gonna work OT tomorrow, but gonna work on the bumper on sunday I think... supposed to be a beautiful day.... hopefully I can hold a grinder.... might even dust off the K5.....

*Ryoken reminder* need to do a McBible order for bumper hardware...

Yes, but you also got a lot done in that time also.

15 months, from this...

I just noticed, in the first pic, the shackle flip is one you "borrowed" from the blazer. I take it is back in the blazer parts pile. If I remember correctly, the steering and front hubs from the blazer went on to Mutt and still need to be replaced.

Edit, BTW Mutt still looks good. Hard to believe how much work was done in 15 months.

Dont worry, every once in awhile you run across a HS kid driving a 4 door big block Lincoln polishing his chrome air filter cover, and valve covers with the T's, with good sounding duals rumbling on some old rallys in front of a gas pump and faith is restored.

hehe, good eye... actually that's a 1-ton flip that I bought for Mutt.. and have since sold... the shackles are from the K5.. all the spring packs have been returned to the K5 since I went to 6" in Mutt..... but the only steering component I replaced from "the pilfering incident", is I bought an upgraded 2wd box for the K5... but the steering arm and whole NWF x-over setup has not been replaced yet....

but that stuff is actually a bit down that list.. priorities for that build are.. get a windshield in it and get the axles built.... and yeah, SRW hub where snagged.. but I also need gear sets, etc.....

the 37's really just make the truck so stout looking compared to the KM2's........

they are out there for sure... just seems the % is getting smaller and smaller... and I'd have to say "my faith in society digging my vehicle stylings" level is at an all time high...... the VAST majority of the response has been over the top positive.. and I really appreciate it... it's made me a different, better person... I'm grateful that people take an interest in something that I'm passionate about.... I'm a better listener now...

with all the vegan, Prius, carbon footprint yippies, I just EXPECT everyone to hate it these days... :haha:

remember this is just for the angle... thinking it'll just be the upper body.. with one of the wings doing the superman forward gig...

at first I liked the most sideways #1, but now I think I like #3, maybe just a shade higher angle...

:ears:

Just a bi-monthly post letting you know sh*t is looking good still...

So about that pup, here yet?

Malakai may very well have been spewed out of Cassie's va-jay jay over the last 3 days, that was the original window.. don't know, haven't heard from her yet..... not sure if I'll hear immediately after or if she waits a week or something to contact....... can't wait for some pics.....
