Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

the 2" is a work out.... I actually run a 5' pipe on it for the 2".. it's never happened before, just wasn't paying attention how well it was seated...... I went flying... f*cked myself up pretty good.. hit the edge of the drain pan, big lump now and all black and blue..

oh well, coulda been worse... stress test tomorrow to get ready for surgery, so most of tomorrow will be shot.. probably take the day off and try to heal up a bit.. but I'll be back hardcore sat.... got like 11 or so days to finish this up, mounted and done... sat I'll see about doing the 2 lowers and capping the ends of the main tubes.. than sunday I'll work on getting the skid built.....

but I'm VERY happy with how it's looking....... just sucks I've gotta run a front plate.... :(

Excellent work as always! Bumper looks killer already and fits the rest of the truck well! And how anal are they in Jersey? Iowa has the front plate law but I haven't run anything but my CAT one in years, company truck doesn't even have one and never been bothered:dunno:

thanks...

it's naziville here.. pretty sure I'd be pulled over within a week...

oh, and a bit of bad news... it APPEARS that Moeller is no longer making Ryoken Green.. or yellow.... my boss tried to order some for me yesterday, and it's listed as discontinued......

Thanks for the heads up. Went to Wholesale Marine (my "go to" website for Ryoken Green) and sure enough....it's gone!! :yikes: Some frantic searching ensued and I found a place with 12 cans left.... so I bought them all. :waytogo:

today wasn't without incident... was bending and the pipe slipped off the arm mid pull.. went flying across the LAB™ into my bandsaw.... big nasty hematoma on my lower back... :doah: :angry1:

Not cool. Your colorful tubesocks didn't protect you? :)

Injuries suck.

yeah, I'm not sure what my solution at this point is... tho not the ideal solution the RG was the best in the convenience of a rattle bomb.... any other air-dried primer is gonna be pretty cr@ppy... maybe I'll step up my game and start using a 2 part zinc wash or epoxy at this point....

:doah: :haha:

Bumper looks great!

Sorry about your back that sucks.

thanks.. I'm stoked to get it finished and back on the rig....

and yeah I'm paying the price today..... the last one I did like this was bailing on a decent bs air and landing on the coping with my hip... :doah:

Maybe everyone is looking for the "ryoken green" and sales for the zinc have stopped... Just wait for them to re-label it ryoken green or RG so everyone can find what there shopping for..................:thumb:

Loving the bumper and how tight it is to the grill. Great work.

thanks guys...... :D

hydro is definitely on my "LAB™ projects", but who knows when I'll get to that....

so... in light of the plate topic, I keep looking at the above pics and getting annoyed with the idea of having the plate on top of the tube... I just think it's gonna look pretty hideous up there.. a pair of nice lights on either side would help... but I am contemplating putting it in the skid...

I mean it is a tow rig, not like I'll be dragging it over chit..... not sure if it'll work with the angle, and how deep it will need to be.... but I'm gonna check into sunday.... I'd do it like the K5 hawse fairlead one......

I'm just thinking it's gonna be a much much cleaner look... at that point, I would even have the choice between a pair of light pods above the tube, or even a lightbar....

when I eventually do go dizzle, I could always swap it out for the original slotted idea if I felt need for it....

whatcha tink Willis? :ears:

I kinda assumed it was going to be down there anyway. Can you just mount it to the surface or do you actually have to sink it in to make it point straight out to pass inspection?

Actually, thinking about it, any reason it HAS to be centered? Maybe it could go outside of the pushbar area between the lower and mid tubes.

great thoughts..... I had contemplated off to one side under the main tube set back a bit.. it will have the soon added lower tube to protect it..

my problem with that honestly is, I'm kinda OCD about things being equal... :doah: :screwy: :haha:

I'm sure that could be a solution if I switch to a vented dizzle one down the road too...

and yeah, if I center it, i'll try to recess it... really wouldn't be an inspection thing, but if it annoyed cops not being very visable, they may pull me over.. but even more importantly, it would look pretty stoopid at the angle I think...

yeah, that OCD will kill ya! lol.

Honestly though, if done right (which you obviously would do) having it offset could look pretty good. So long as the mount made it look like it was supposed to be there, if you know what I mean.

either way, I'm definitely not putting it on top... i'll see what I think about recessing it tomorrow or sunday... if I felt it was needed, I could even angle the sidewalls out some for better sideviewing...

this 20 wide dual row

would fit sweet between the uprights and really even up the "viewing window" of the GMC emblem... plus, it's about 1/2 the price of the dual pods... only 2/3 as bright as the pair tho...

.

he does have this beefier 20" one for $240 that is close in power to the 2 pods at $60 cheaper....

How you feeling after the hematoma? ?

U going to be shoveling mutt out after the snow tomorrow?

thanks for asking...

it's pretty rocked today... gonna be feeling it for a week or 2 for sure.... and yup, I'll be out there cleaning Mutt, shoveling and such... gonna want all that sh*t off and away ASAP so I'll have plenty of room to reinstall the bumper..

probably wont be ready to go back on till weds, thur next week tho, by the time I paint it..

hopefully it'll warm up a few days early next week and do some melting..... waiting on that RG, should be here mon or tues.....

it recess's back pretty far.. the top is back like 5"....

I'm not so concerned with the top. being the rig sit's high... more concerned if I need to angle the sides, so it has a bit of viewability... i'll have to do some oaktag templating sunday morn with my coffee and figure out a plan o' attack....

I was looking for an excuse to weld some alum anyway! :woot: :weld: :saweet: :weld::haha:

Sounds like you will be digging out of the snow for a few days

I haven't been paying too much attention, but I think they are calling for 12" to 15" here.. I'm not really concerned about the snow, or coastal flood warnings, even tho I am only 3 blocks from the beach... :haha:

I'm much more concerned about the sustained 50 to 60 mph winds they are calling for... that's when you lose power.... :doah: that's really the only thing I don't have on hand was I forgot to get some gas for my generator... worst case I could drive the couple miles down to the marina and grab a 5 gallon.....
