Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

What happened?
prolly took out the board... wasn't thinking when swapping from spool to wire feed and hit the toggle swiitch with the machine on.. won't power up now...
..

no fuses.. just the breaker in the the back that didn't trip.. no magic smoke or anything, just a light pop noise..... nada....

Sorry missed that. I saw dollar signs and got excited

actually, i think i edited that in before seeing your reply.. anyway, it blows.. but chit happens, ya deal with it.... sad thing is the panels will be done by friday... guess i can do the light wiring...

My welder just up and quit a while back... Turned it on and off, got nothing. Let it sit a half HR while I drank beer and tried for the hell of it.. worked fine since..... I don't know what it was, but have you tried yours again since it did it?

tis dead.....

it's the damn dryer breaker... :angry1: guy calls and says the welder is fine.. :haha: i have em put a new lining in it and pick it up... the funny thing was, i verified power after, by running the dryer...

tried it again tonight, first arc, dead, now the breaker won't even refire to run the dryer... should be up and running for the weekend...

less than a week, as long as i'm up and running tomorrow, all good... I'll occasionally go thru a breaker for the compressor, as i use it for a switch sometimes.. but the dryer one hadn't been turned off/on in a long time...

so... I'm trying to talk myself out of, into, doing integrated 2 x 4 sliders in place of rockers...

all 4 rockers need to be done...

i do like a factory rocker "look" in a build like this... and always said i'd keep em... not gonna be draggin it across rocks...

but...

i have an LMC replacement for the ds front, that is "ok".. but I'm not even sure who makes decent back ones for a CC, if at all... also, if I'm gonna do the full custom kennel floor, it would be easier just to incorporate sliders like the K5 has and make it better engineering in the back doorways with the removable ramp, etc...

but it also means doing my fender fangs, which is a pain..

an aside to that is, I'm SUPER stoked to be bringing a vehicle to the car show with gaping rot in the rockers!!!! :haha: :woot: :saweet: :pimp:

doesn't matter, the bed is the star of the show... :pimp: I'm getting revv'd to put it back together and start setting up the drawers... :saweet:

other build notes...

just FTR, I never would have done my worklights if I had known about the 12v, but as my luck would have it, purchased that stuff 2 days before I was asked about buying the rig... :doah: :haha:

gonna test the light angle/blinding factor tonight, than the spare and lights come off for paint next week...

My jury is out on rockers

thanks... I appreciate that... it's just something that creeped into my brain the last few weeks, the rockers are looking horrible, and all are paper thin.. function/build-wise, i think sliders are ideal... exterior cosmetics, especially on a dually tow/service rig, stock is much better.. we'll see...

Could you do a set using 3" round tube and set em back far enough that it almost looks like the factory roll... Maybe it'd be just enough of a subtle difference but still stockish. :dunno: Or use a piece of 4" round sliced into quarters length wise welded to a piece of angle length wise as a backer ....?

I knew someone would come along and make that challenge.... ;) you know I'm always up to try sumfin new.... :doah:

I'm not sure if a 1/4 of a 3", 4" tube would look right.... I'll have to drink a few neErs and look at it... or if all that would just be stoooopid hard and not worth the effort.....

I'm ok waiting to try whatever i do till i do the floor and do it all in 1 shot.. just trying to give myself some insight into an avenue to take...... i think if i could buy all 4 rockers NOS, I'd go that route in a heartbeat.. and make the floor work around that.. which isn't a big deal... just not sure how this will all fall into place with the mill swap/tunnel work... :dunno:

The pieces I have welded to my rockers are 9 or 10” diameter pipe

They look decent enough. Not terribly rock proof. That’s why my jury is out

so #2.... ;)

obviously at this point I've decided to keep my light wiring external for now....

gonna run loom from the upper ps C-hoop down to the bed and inboard... maybe 5'... I'm not afraid to run a straight thru like watertight or hose, etc, but with the ends exposed/taped, etc, I don't feel it's worth it.. just looking for a non-obtrusive, black, tight wrap for going down the C-tube... obviously whatever i use will need some tie straps to the tube... but I'm thinking about a weave, wrap..

anyone use something like this stuff for cable management?
