Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

huh, apparently this is already a thing on some RV's according to goOgle images......

meh, still my ideaR bitches... :pimp:

I'm stoked on it... should raise a few eyebrows... ;) trying to get a stoopid good deal on some parts for this thru work...

oh, get ready for lots of build babble over the winter as I work my brain thru this new electrical system I'm designing...

*** Mutt meet boat, boat meet Mutt.... ***

what the f*ck is wrong with me???!!!? :dunno: :haha: :doah: :screwy::pimp: :saweet: ;)

tonights research.. figure out a quick-release latch dealio for said tray 0' juice....

Just remember, those drawer sliders are designed to work upright. Laying them flat will seriously compromise their integrity.

:waytogo: I did think of that... i know they won't have the lb rating they normally would.... i plan to do a rough test to see how they act with that kind of weight on them.. i haven't ruled out a more traditional mounting, this is so much simpler, i need to consider it.....

These look like nice ones too but no pricing. They use the kind of slide out battery box you want on lots of RVs and stuff.

those all look to be standard side mount slides... basically i can build that with what i have... this all started to use up the extra drawer slides i have... those expensive ones would be tits...

so... I'm a bit torn... ran a test on the slides...

for the amount of times the tray would be used (basically that is to change a bat, maybe jump start someone or maintenance), it would be more than fine. especially where the batteries are mounted.. basically they barely come out of the box.. i actually tried them all the way out on the edge, and the slides did good.. tho it takes a bit of effort to get them sliding in initially, take the weight off as you do it and it slides right in... where they would actually be mounted, it would be smooth and fine... and I'm sure it would outlive me in that capacity....

all THAT said ;) ,

I'm considering doing a standard side mount... I'm thinking a tray... bottom, 3" high sides and back.... open front... I would prolly add a couple small ribs to the underside of the tray to add rigidity... I'm thinking making it stiff and smooth like the upper drawer movement/look, is the way to go.. I might actually look to do a pair of quick release handles like the upper drawers have, mimic the look...

it turns the project from 10 hr's to 146 (maybe 274 by the time the wiring is done, I'll get back to ya), but I'm pretty used to that at this point in my build life.. :screwy::smokin2: :haha: :doah: :hack::weld::pimp:

oh, here's how much of a "wind-down" mode I'm in from the last yr of Mutt work/fab... I'm sorting hardware.... :haha: :doah: :screwy:

but I'm gearing up to get back in the game...

so... my winter list currently consists of battery box slide tray fab schtuff, clean, smooth and regasket the 6BT... maybe play around with drawer lights and a rear hitch gig...

on the "not so great" front, I think my throwout bearing is getting ready for the pearly gates... bad timing.. don't wanna be throwing a clutch in a drivetrain that's gonna go by by...

oh, I gotta say.. I'm pretty displeased with these led worklights from SideTracker.. i see he only sells cheap stuff now.. i've had nothing but problems with these... now one only has 3 out of 9 led's coming on, flickery, etc.. rather annoyed, as these certainly weren't cheap.. i'll have to fire off an e-mail this week, but being he doesn't sell these anymore, I'm sure I'll be f*cked...

need to fire an e-mail off to this guy this week.... .

One of our old tractors has a slide out battery tray. It’s a 1986 Massey works great for service. Good ideas you got!

I wouldn’t do any Cummins badging... keep em guessing? 5” SS pipe out the back, pass side behind the duels, no tip.

haha, I'm no farm boy, but we ran a Massey at the marina for the first 10 yr's... tough, French fuggin thing... ;) got rid of it a few yr's ago when the bellhousing got a huge crack in it...

FTR.... I am, VERY hesitant on badging the fenders... it's hard for me NOT to want to do sumfin subtl-y "fug ya", being the smartarse... i think 5.9 covers that..

a simple "C" is a lot more "in yur face, braggin" kinda deal i'd guess, kinda, whatever... and even as a circus wagon, i sort of still try to stay tasteful????!???? :haha: :dunno: :dunno: :saweet: :pimp: :eek1:  :yikes: :haha:

*****sheesh, could i build a more obnoxious rig????? ????? :haha: it's got an evil mallard on the hood for cryin out loud!!! ******

i don't know, by the time i get to X-blocking and final coating the exterior I'll be buying rattlecans with my SS check..... :haha: :doah: :pimp:

oh, interior design build babble coming in...... 6.. 5.... tues... 4... 11ty.....

.

so.... in a nutshell, here's the interior/electrical layout.. more later... I'm gonna pilfer the sh*t out of the K5.. when i get to that rig, i'll redo them... :deal:

basically, I'm gonna run the K5 dash with the AM Pro Comps.. with a couple obvious changes, boost, pyro, etc... just gonna change the trim rings from copper, to Ryo red..

dual volt gauges, remote throttle, conturas, all of it..

full

.. I'm also gonna run the glovebox breaker panel/plexi deal...

full

the only difference between Mutt, and the K5, will be that the whole overhead console switching of the K5,

full

will now be under the center console/flip-up metal, pooch plank, floor gig I got in plan for the kennel floor....

so...... factory fuseblock, firewall passthru, etc will all be gone... only factory electrical in the rig will be the steering column........

I have SERIOUS issues.... :dunno: :saweet: :pimp: :haha:

I'm thinking Cummins 5.9 in a custom logo styled like a Cheyenne logo, or something similar Chevy style but stating Cummins, Just a thought, whatever you do is sure to be great.

That rusty exhaust tip ruins it lol. I can't believe your OCD self isn't running all stainless exhaust!

it's funny you say that.. the day before the car show, I was gonna douche it with some alum rattlecan so it would look decent for a few days..

than I said to myself, "don't be a kook!"

i am totally open to something kool like the ones Kert was cutting out.... just not sure what would be cool, and or funnay... i like where you're going with this one.. just getting to sit down and start designing/drawing stuff, coming up with fonts, etc is a little low on the priority list till the mill is in, and I'm contemplating a final paint...

what i REALLY need to be doing in that regard is working on my Angry Mallard Marine & Hauling logo more... get a viable file...
