Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

;) it was good to get her out of the house.. things have been tough with my dad...

gonna start trying to get back to Mutt over the next few days more... if I could get my damn blaster back, I'd be at it tomorrow...

oh, who is everyone using for various rolocs? what's that one, benchmark abrasives? need 2" course surface condition pads and 24 or 36 grit in 2" too....

Ordering more and more from benchmark at work. So thumbs up for them, but don’t know about rolocs

question...

eventually I'll get a nice manifold when I do a new turbo, maybe get it coated... but in the meantime I'll run the stocker.... usually I just run the manifold paint, which actually does reasonable on manifolds.. but eventually starts to fail at the hotspots...

could I season this thing? coat it with oil/lard and cook it? or would that fail in short order?

I think it's a waste of time honestly. Egts can reach 1300 degrees.

yeah, i have a 1/2 can of manifold paint, good enough to make it look decent for a while... it was just a brainstorm, figured if it holds up on cookware, it might be an option..

Get it Jet Hot coated or something similar, I wouldn't waste your time painting it. Or got buy a 3 piece manifold. Will that turbo location even work on a squarebody or do you need the forward mount setup? I'd do some digging before spending too much time on that one also.

well, i would consider sending it for jethot, but i thought these factory ones where prone to cracking from what i had heard... and that i would want to go aftermarket at some point anyway... i assumed that style mount would have plenty of space in a square over that tight dudge.....

There's a graphite coating that I was gonna use when I did a manifold project. Comes out looking like iron. I'll see if I can dig up what it was.

hmmmm, interesting! i might give that a shot as a guinea pig..... cheap enough....

here's the current plan... tan on the whole mill, block, head, pump, pan, front cover... front accessory stuff will be black....

i was originally thinking i would do the VC's in a satin black too... but now I'm thinking I may go with Ryo red, carry over some color to the tan... i think the 2 will look good together with the black stuff..

reminds me, I'll be doing firewall work/paint at that time too....

Haven't had the opportunity to need a high temp paint, but thought it would make for a more resilient coating than paint, and a hell of a lot cheaper than ceramic coating. Looks decent too, esp once polished up.
