Where the cables would route between the switch stack and the batteries, but to be honest, I like your mockup even better.

You could re-purpose that 'wall' that the switches are mounted to to be part of the battery hold-down structure too.

i could definitely use it to secure that side of the holddown.. the one thing i don't like about the stack is, tho it puts a bunch of the wiring to the back, it would put me back to using 90 lugs... i'll start playing after x-mas....

Agreed. The stack would require 90° lugs, as well as much more intense cable management in the back. The only advantage is that it would be mostly hidden.

Having played with it a bit, I personally would lean very much towards placing the switches vertical on a dividing wall that would double as a support for the battery hold-down.

I can imagine something along these lines:

hah! I wish I could just create CAD models all day, but thank you very much.

I do work in that industry, and I do use CAD all day, but I'm usually working with wire harness design on a system level. I look at things like this all day:

(and btw, yes, my team and I did design all of that)

As well as drawings to show the mechanics how all that wire is installed.



It's nice to get back to just modeling some simple-ish brackets and switches haha.

I can't even begin to say how much I'm looking forward to being able to start my own large-scale automotive project. I've been planning for so many years that now that I'm on the cusp of starting, I can hardly hold back haha

sweet, thanks! i love that.. i had already considered tapering in the ends if i could.... just wanna see if i feel it needs any support somewhere..... I'll run 1/4"......
 
I think the wall mount idea is a winner. Much more efficient use of space, manual switches easier to reach, and an even better look.
I bet the cable routing will look better too.

I'm no pro.... I don't do this for a living.... i build for myself... :o what I somehow think I'm supposed to be doing... :screwy: i document it for some cwazy reason... and anyone who has read/deals with my drivel/psycho chit, props and thanks for your perseverance.. I've alienated 3/4 of this forum with my bs, and I understand anyone that I've "put off"... it's something I've had to learn that I do to many people... not my intention, but, it is, what it is... :(

but for those that continue to put up with my chit to watch/read/yawn, maybe reply, thru my drivel on my builds... thanks, I really, do appreciate it... :bow: :bow: no chit... :bow::bow: it's the only props I have in my life, other than Kai being my bud no matter what... it ain't much, but hey.... :pimp:

wire order came in early, so started working on the trigger harness today... mainly straightening the lengths i need in various colors... just waiting on a roll of 10g on friday..

I'm actually contemplating getting a label maker... was eyeballin this.... but i know nothing about them.... not looking to do shrinktube, just quality tags...

brought the tablesaw home to start the alumfab on the tray... farted around today trying to workout the mounting wall/holdown setup... think i have a plan...... :haha:
 
just a couple build brain farts....


I was hemming and hawing on whether I wanted to run a terminal strip in the box.. it's sole purpose being to have a disconnect point for the trigger harness inside the box for maintenance.. after it went thru the cable carrier, but before it exited the box... I decided against it, just another fail point..... harness wires will run from the tray all the way to the cab... I could always add it down the road if I feel the need...


finally decided to do a "locking-in" bar across the bats, thru a slot, 90.... like notlaw drew, as opposed to a full frame, etc...... than on the outboard side I'll make stud mounting tabs at the top of the wall...

basically this, but the mounting switched.... i was hesitant to do this just due to the slot-cutting... but I'll manage... but i don't want the tabs on the switch side.. also the switches won't be centered like that, I'll explain that in a few days...

we have a couple of brady wire labelers at work, they work really well and have held up really good to an industrial atmosphere, had the battery die on one of them ended up getting a regular power supply for it and ditching the battery. The big downfall to the model we have is the consumables are rather expensive

appreciate the real world input.. :)

for as much of a tool junkie as i am, i liked the look of their stuff... but than i actually thought about it, and it's not like i'm gonna take it to work and make labels in boats.. it's strictly for here at the house... and mainly to do the full harness on this rig... that's why i actually bought the table toppy type model as opposed to the p-touch handheld.. basically the same price, but i bought the AC adapter for this unit...

and yeah, after looking at various tapes and such, it seemed their where more economical consumables for the huge p-touch base.. i actually bought one of the aftermarket tape companies offerings.. they had 6 different color combos, much better pricing than the OEM stuff and gets really good reviews....




The LAB™ is warming up currently... just about all the pieces and parts are in place and the time to play with em is here.. expect pic updates to start rolling out hot and heavy over the next few weeks.... :deal: :saweet:

I've got a brother I've had for several years. Seems to print every time I need it to. Which reminds me that I have a harness that I need to swap... :doah:
 
this afternoon's mockup..... the switches are spaced off the back wall some to allow for the 2 pos cables to come down.. the front is spaced back to allow for the bend of the harness 180 from the track......

obviously i didn't shape/round the tabs yet.... and I'm also holding off on "end angle cuts" for now..... I'm gonna wanna secure the pos + neg coming down off the batteries and I'm not sure how much i want to cut back yet.. it will prolly be the last thing done..

all fasteners will be countersunk on the back with flatheads... thus why i went 1/4".....

here's kinda how the wiring will run... crudely..... ;)

everything that goes thru the carrier loops around and runs down in the corner under the switches... the green is the trigger bundle.....

yeah.... just in fit up mode at this point... today I'm making the other side of the holddown... that will dictate the exact position of the switch wall... I'll burn them in while i have the track area all hacked apart... spool gun gonna be busy next week! ;)




I probably won't angle the ends in till it's welded in, and I'm making those cable ends/routing/fastening.... for those "down runs" of the 1/0 I'm just gonna run a single ss band clamp for each cable...
