Ryoken's 96 Furd twofiddy

We use this at work al the time

I don't think I have a Menards within 100 miles... ;) I'd buy that all day, good price too..

Depot only had that super fine, wet mush stuff... but you just gave me the idea to check out the local lowes....

did pick up a yard of screen, but unsure at this point how the size is.. need to make a quicky box for it too....

I'll be bouncing between Mutt and the Furd all weekend hopefully.. gonna try to get the 2 rails in primer/paint just past the shock towers... also work on getting the power steering lines out... got the pressure, but the return won't be in till next week or so...

I'll also throw the belt and cam sensor in once the paint is done....

throw in I need to bust the cab mounts all loose.. and weld these in to the front rad spots that I picked up from Jeff's....

the ds star hole is a BIT larger than stock.. ;) ps side is fine.. but i'll put them on both sides to keep things even.. 1/4" thick right on top, so I'll have to keep that in mind with the new mount...

They actually make/had new brackets that would bolt to the frame, but they are on "indefinite backorder" status...

next week I'd like to get to starting assembly on the front.. I still have a bunch to do parts-wise.. the bat trays still need a bunch of blast cab time, etc...

front rails are blasted/primed/painted... I'll do the x-member and pan somewhat once I take the steering hoses off tomorrow...

tomorrow I work on getting the cab mounts off and new ones in loosely...

these body mounts are gonna suck.... had to hot wrench all the nuts off... finally got the bolts out of the bushings, but now the bushing are a giant blob of rubber and sleeves sandwiching the frame bracket..... basically the cab is 4" above the mounts and I'm gonna be using every prybar, sawzall, bashers, etc I have to actually get the rubbers out.. right now, they be chuckling at me..

installing the new stuff will be super easy at that point.. especially with the holes in the floor...

sawzall with a fresh 12" metal blade FTW... :hack: :saweet:

made reasonable short work of the one mount, albeit smokey.. ;) the rest shall meet the same fate soon enough... :deal:

anxious to start assembly....

the one wheel well cleaned up surprisingly nice... still a ton of blast cab, etc work to go...

just hoping the weather hangs in long enough to get it painted....

cab mounts are in loosely, thankfully...

now back to mechanical, hoses, belts, etc... unfortunately i found another small fuel leak in the line that leads to the tank selector valve.. I'd love to find exact replacements for that and the identical return next to it.. hope they are available.. they have the factory crimped hose at the valve end, and clip on fitting, the fronts are a quick connect bubble flare up by the shock tower.....

the other one i need to look up is a proportioning valve... if i ever have to touch it, it'll have to be replaced, ball of rust...

.

looks like I'll be on my own to reconfigure the fuel line..

You try Randy at driven 4x4 for those parts?

never heard of them before.. i did check jeff's for the fuel lines... it won't be too hard a work-around, as the ends are readily available.. it's more just the "pile another thing on an already long list" deals... :doah:

off today, rain.. gonna spend some quality time with the blast cab later..

holy.....

fuggin.....

chit.......

hope mine never goes bad... :yikes: at some point I'd like to get the second tank back in...

so, waiting on the return ps hose from Amazon.. supposed to be here by friday.. it's the goofy one with the hardline cooler.... only place i found it...

since I'm waiting on that stuff and want the mechanicals done first, before i get the wells and support back in, I'm gonna order the front frame bracket for the support.. i noticed Jeffs was getting some in on the 23rd, so I'm gonna order one instead of doing the weld-in...

the last of the parts going raw thru the process...

hope that ps hose actually shows tomorrow, but I have my Amazon doubts... hopefully sunday this rig will start to be reassembled.....

Now would be the perfect time to tackle a shackle reversal on the front of this thing with the clip and all out of the way.

don't remind me... ;) just don't have the money, and really, time, as I want the rig running again before x-mas.... plus it still needs a pair of tires...

this is the kit i wanna run in 4".... https://www.skysoffroaddesign.com/c...-shackle-reversal-kits?variant=13845255618626

but than i need springs, an axle, shocks, etc too... plus doing something in the back... maybe next summer...

i figure 4" and 35's should proportion out well on this rig... they have very roundy wheel openings...

at least those x-code springs look pretty cheap.... and i saw an axle for 500....

For rigs that you drive such few miles, are you buying new wheels/tires, or used?

I'm scouring CL for a set for my 91. I don't drive it enough to warrant new tires. Plus, i can't get any decent 16.5" tires to fit the wheels i have anymore....but thats another issue.

trust me, Mutt gives me 16.5 ajada... ;) i love the bajas on it, but it eats fronts pretty quick... i'm researching an alternative, but it's slim-pickings..

as for this rig.. i forget exactly what these where, 285/75/r16 iirc... they're pretty big, like 32.5.. exact same mall terrains are $215 a piece.. which i was pleasantly surprised at... so i'm thinking of just replacing the fronts... than run these out, and go up to 35 then.... this rig eats fronts worse than Mutt with that TTB junk.. :haha: i've seen it, the tires aren't that old.. the backs are decent..

as to used tires... nah, i don't have much of a market for that here.. iirc, there is a used tire place, maybe out in jackson or something, and the prices aren't that spectacular for the effort/time.... never really looked at marketplace, etc for tires....

Used tires aren't my jam, but wheel/tires packages on FB marketplace or craigslist have been good to me. really helps when you don't have to pay mount/balance.

so why did furd, and jeep, in their infinite wisdum, run shackles like this? i understand the "con", but don't know the "pro" to the setup... :dunno:
