Ryoken's 96 Furd twofiddy

for my more dizzle rig savvy friends.... curious, what's the purpose of a "fast idle" setting in the tuners, etc? is this strictly a better winter warm-up kind of deal?

Also used for like a PTO setting or drawing a alot of power like say using a winch.

that's the first thing my brain went to was, hand throttle...

just wasn't sure if it was also performance related to modded mills or sumfin...

So how much would it take to buy it if you wanted to sell it?

Just curious. I wouldn’t sell till you got Mut the way you want it.

hadn't really thought about it... and yeah, while it would wipe out my debt, which would be sweet in current times.. but I'd be back to blackie being my only running rig really with Mutt's current drivetrain being a bit hurt.....

I don't know, it may be crazy, but at least 18 I guess, maybe even 20... and that may go up in my mind if the world continues on it's path of crazyness..

I wonder what I would sell my 79 K5 for if someone wanted to throw crazy $$ at it.

A guy in kali was teasing 35, he was just probing.

They will never seal.... every aftermarket set of lights i've ever sold get water in them. Doesn't matter if they're OE replacements, Recon's, K-source, whoever. For some reason the glue they use or however they put them together sucks.
Drill a 1/8 drain hole in the low point. Give it somewhere to go.

well, after a stellar performance year, I had a trainwreck in the fUrd on the way home tonight.... a dead bat ended up in a wrecked hood, hinge (i'll just do both hopefully), maybe the latch assembly and definitely a cable..

in addition to stealing the 2 semi-fresh bats I just installed in Mutt... :doah:

I'm hoping my pool bud Jeff has an in for me with a used hood and maybe, hinges... latch and cable are like $75...

I did need to repaint the hood, I actually have paint for it.. but this wasn't the intended route... this'll be a jan project fo sure...

just to elaborate a bit on the actual sitcheeation..

the rig had been starting "off" the last week or so, but I was thinking fuel related.. as it would light off, just a bit longer crank.. well, the bat died off quick trying to restart in a precarious parking spot on the way home...

I hustled a quick, as my decrepid body allows, walk home to get blackie.. stole a bat from
Mutt, and cables and headed back... pull right in front of the rig.. go to pop the furd hood, and the hood release cable snaps... THE.. THE... only tool i had other than my keys was a 24" Snappy pry bar, a 1/2 ratchet /sockets and adjustable..... i manage to get the hood popped by "persuading" the latch mechanism...

jump the rig and get it running... close the hood to what I thought was the "first latch" position, cuz the cable is fugged.... go to drive home the back roads and the hood flies open and over-extends the hinges.. actually bent/taco'd the hood on the one side, like a squarebody, trying to reclose it.. i actually drove it the 8 blocks home, with the hood open..

Thanks for the explanation, I couldnt quite put that puzzle all together.
I've done the hood trick myself on a grand am my daughter had….pos deserved it too!
good luck with the parts scrounging!

Oh yeah that’s bummer.

At least you know a good body man!

:haha:

just ordered a release cable and latch... Jeff is working on a hood tonight.. i'll find out this weekend..

eh, give me something to do over the winter. other than shoot pool.. i'll actually pull the latch on sat, and mofo-ing ratchet strap the bent hood down and drive around.. ;)

got the latch out, 2 fresh bats in, and the hood ratchet strapped back down...

no line on a hood yet, but i got hinges, cable and latch.. Jeff and I may hit Friendship junkyard tomorrow.. see...

but more importantly, it wasn't the bats.. it still has a prob starting.. i did get it to go a couple times, and once it's running it's fine...... but it sounds like it's not getting fuel when it first "hits".. sometimes you gotta crank and crank.... and even than sometimes it doesn't go..

why do i think I'm gonna be putting an ICP or something in that crazy system... gonna start peaking at it tomorrow for anything obvious..

but I have no confidence in it, it's gonna leave me stranded...... gonna drive Blackie the next few days/weeks, till i can figure out what's wrong.. it needed a fresh tank of fuel for winter and it's legs stretched a bit anyway.. literally drove the rig twice all yr..

wish I had a fancy scan tool like Watch Wes Work....

When's the last time you did a fuel filter? I had a 97 7.3 that would do some funky stuff like that sometimes and it was fuel related. Don't know what it ever winded up being as I sold it.

last summer iirc.... maybe 7, 8000 miles ago..

check the ignition switch, there was a recall on that switch, should have been done. Now the recall switch is 20 years old, and I never saw a big improvement over the old design.

the switch starts to separate then the shuttle misses contact with some or all of the circuits. At worse it shorts to ground and starts a fire.
