Ryoken's Guide to Rust Treatment and Bodywork 101

Wow...what a day...hard work..

Pics coming, 36 grit wheel and 40 grit longboard and fiberglass cement....

Not finished yet but got a lot of the way there

OK...these photos are to show what it looked liked from last weekend when I taped up the door and built up the Dynaglass to about 1/8 closest to the door at the top.

Here is the 36 Grit grinder wheel and I took Ryoken's advice and ground off the area waaay past where I needed to...maybe too long?

"excessive" will be determined when we see how far the repair comes out... :haha:

Then I layed on the glass and used a Lowes yard stick and raked the excess off.

I still left a horrible finish....that Dynaglass is kind of hard to work with

Then I sanded for what seemed like hours, although that Green 3M paper is good! It's like the difference between a handsaw and a Skil-Saw!

HF Paper sucks.

Anyway...I sanded and sanded with 40, re-wiped on glass and sanded some more, re-wiped on glass and sanded some more.....

There's more pinholes in that Dynaglass than a gas station condom :haha:

are you happy with it?

btw, how's the hood lining up after the whole fender clusterknuckle?

I can live with it....I wanted "perfect" but I can't get it there.

Yeah...the hood is the best I've ever had it yet....although I still think almost 1/2" gaps on the hood sides is kind of big....at least they match.

I have looked at every square body I can find...when I see one on the highway I will stop and look if one is at a filling station or parking lot.

The factory gaps are all over the place on all of them that I have seen. The only perfect gaps I have seen yet were on a 1971 Blazer I saw in the Target parking lot.

It had nice gaps all the way around....but in the condition that thing was in I know somebody restored it completely and frame off....and the gaps are slightly different than on the 1973-75 square body, but obviously whoever did it knew what they were doing.

keep bangin.. you know the steps, get it thru fill... drive it around.. win lotto.. stick in booth.. cruise beach..

Here's the Black 1972 Blazer I saw at Target....photos suck...took by my Blackberry

That's the only other full vert I have ever seen around here...imagine my surprize when I saw him pulling into the parking lot...

I was 45 when I started this project...I'd like to get it painted soon and have it finished interior and out by the time I am 50....man I am old...

It hurts more to work on it now than it did then...:doah:

Another whole day and I made some more progress. I was able to clean the paint gun I thought was ruined. I had to put down more dynaglass on the drivers side in three low spots.

For some reason I could not get anything to stick in the pinholes...including more Dynaglass, so I douched on the Primer heavy...it went right in there and almost filled them. I need to sand and then glaze I guess.

I am getting close now...but running out of materials....had some paint thinner go down a rubber glove and holy mackeral that hurt for an hour.
