Ryoken's Guide to Rust Treatment and Bodywork 101

I took the seat frames and foam and upholstery to the upholstery shop today :woot:

Got the lock rod...that's one of the most clever ways of packing I have ever seen...

Ha ha! :haha: Well, I didn't want it punch thought the packaging and get bent. That type item as simple as it has a tendency to go packaging as it goes the mail. I glad it made it to you in same shape as it left Santa Maria.

You'll never guess what I found hiding at the bottom of my driver's side door :dunno:

oh well...it never hurts to have spares :haha:

I put in the door lock cylinder and the door handle...that's tricky....

I put the old original outside door handles on because they are heavy as a sledgehammer and I know they are oem...although they have spiderweb scratches and are missing the black paint stripe in the middle of the handle

They look fine though...

...and are missing the black paint stripe in the middle of the handle

I've found the Ultra Flat Black Camouflage Spray Paint from ACE Hardware is a pretty close/exact match to the factory black. I used it to restore some of my trim pieces.

I'm not sure exactly how much of the handle was black...did the stripe cover the entire length?
I may not mess with it...but if I did, now would be the time to do it before I put the glass in.
if I take them off again and paint the stripe I may go ahead and get them polished as well...

I dont think the handles got the black stripe.

I'm not sure either. I know the headlight bezels were painted black inside around the headlight on 1973-74, but not from 75 on. Its hard to make out in my brochures if 73-74 had the stripe on the handle. I'm pretty sure it wasn't there in 75-76. So the possibility of it being black is real, I've just never seen a truck with it like that before. I could be wrong (and often am).

Excellent looking truck by the way Chief.

I'm going to have to think on the handles...I could get a black adhesive stripe and nobody would know the difference...I am afraid if I paint them they won't look right if I don't do a spot-on tape job.

I called the upholsterer today, he's been doing custom restos for 40 years...I asked him about carpet. He told me without a doubt that ACC (Auto Custom Carpets) is by far the best...and they are made here in Alabama. They have the tubs and they make them here when you order them.
http://www.accmats.com/

He said they have the best fit of any of the oem fitted carpets.

I double checked and Summit carries them, but I went straight to the company site and got 20% off.
They are still the highest priced molded carpet out there...but the quality does look very good...saw them in a video.
If it didn't cost me more in gas I would have driven to the company to pick it up, but it actually would cost me more in gas than the shipping.

It would have made a cool field trip though...

Good call on the quality carpet. I ordered mine from Classic Parts and its good but not 100% resto good.

I read here on K5 that http://www.automotiveinteriors.com/ actually sells the ACC stuff too, but for cheaper because they buy in bulk. I could have read it wrong though.

Holy mackerel...I could have saved over $100 by getting it through them :doah: :doah: :doah: :doah: :doah:

Summit was higher than direct...these guys are waaaaaaay cheaper and it's not because they buy in bulk though...ACC doesn't make the carpet till you order it...Automotive Interiors is just a middleman that sells it to you and sends the order to ACC who then ships it to you...

Looks like many online sites have an ACC option. Wish I had looked around a little longer before I pulled the trigger.

I just sent them an email showing the difference in the price...I asked for maybe a price match or to at least throw in a set of floor mats.

we'll see if I get anywhere...

Mackerel indeed! They only want $175 plus $38 shipping for carpet for the burb! Well, the front carpet anyway.
