Ryoken's Guide to Rust Treatment and Bodywork 101

some folks eat blackeyed peas for New Years Day...it was 41* but sunny here today so I took the Blazer out for a long drive...as long as I kept my left hand inside the door it wasn't freezing.

Had a guy in a white Z71 chase me to the parts store so he could take pictures...

feels good to drive the Blazer again with an almost good right arm

next task is stripping down the fender badges again and starting over because I am so unsatisfied with the job I did on them that I won't put them on.
I have been unable to find any emblem restoration shops that will take them and fix them for me.

I would've followed you to take pics too! Your truck is looking great, glad you got to take it out for a drive.

I think you posted it earlier in the thread some where, but how'd you do the emblems before that you're dissatisfied with them? I refurbish emblems and things, My refurbished Emblems and door panels. I see you posted on my thread when I first made it. If I can be of any help let me know.

The yellow paint inside the letters...it built up to thick and then began to cling to the inner sides of the letters...it looks uneven and lumpy in there...not flat and smooth like it is supposed to.

I used testor's model enamel paint, maybe that was the problem...and I didn't thin it down...

The pair of emblems that I have are apparent the only ones left on earth that nobody drilled holes in so I am very protective of them, but your work looks great.

Maybe I can try again with some tips from you or maybe I could ship them to you for a restoration fee?

I have some emblems here. Snapped a few pics, one is undrilled and has both studs on the back still. The other three all have been drilled at least once.

No holes, both studs there

Single hole, both studs there

No studs, one hole

Same deal, no studs one hole.

If any of this helps, lemme know and I'll mail em out to you. I don't have any pressing need for them.

Thanks, I have the Cheyenne emblems and they are on the truck, it's the K5 emblems I am stressing over...I appreciate the offer but the ones I have are in good condition, it's just the lousy paint job I did that I am not happy about and that I need a high speed quality buffer to polish them to a brilliant shine

I still want to know how these are painted at the factory....it is a big mystery

I wouldn't mind having those emblems if the Chief doesn't want them.

Chief, I can help you do your emblems if you want by providing a step by step of how I do it, or if you want me to do them just pay shipping :waytogo:

Back to square one on the emblems...a liquid Aircraft Paint Stripper bath...and now they are raw metal again

it was all you bro, proud of what you accomplished and fought thru.... :waytogo:

thanks Paul, but it was a team effort...I wonder if this is the first online coached restore of a K5 ever?

But we aren't done yet...got a fiberglass top to go...after I get some more rubber seals and weatherstripping

Also got to figure out how to get that dust and possible overspray off all my black parts under the hood....they went into the paint shop looking brand new and now look like it has sat outside a cement factory...:dunno:

Usually when you say "stripper" and "bath" on a Saturday night it has a whole other connotation...

Trying to figure out if I should attempt the black outside first or the yellow inside the letters? :dunno:

I put masking tape over the letters then used an xacto knife and cut out the letters and used spray paint to paint them. Then I carefully hand painted the black.

Actually, it was mostly two-stage Urethane Eastwood Underhood Black...except for the hinges and the air cleaner
