Ryoken's Guide to Rust Treatment and Bodywork 101

bottom of c-post to bottom of c-post... you may need to slot the bolt holes that bolt the qrter to tailpan at each end...

Dang...I only need an 1/8 inch on each side...

What if I redneck rig my hydraulic jack...lay it on its side, use 4x4's on each end? :dunno:

feasable... go under and loosen those tailpan to qrter bolts, close the tailgate and see if you can shift the qrter a bit with a spoon or screwdriver, put some paint sticks in and retighten the bolts..

Will do first thing in the morning...I am beat after 3 full days on this thing...surely. surely I can get enough by loosening those bolts...

I am wishing now that I had slotted those holes when the quarters were off...it just didn't cross my mind.

On another note, I did find out that Nason primer will ignite when the welder hits it...burned a few spots here and there while welding today...

I didn't want to say anything... never weld until your 100% your good and ready.... :deal:

I figured as long as I left the rear filet welds undone I could always unbolt the quarter and have some movement...dunno if I could swing them out enough to get to those holes or not...maybe...if I have to...hope I don't have to...

When it's your first time through this, there's a lot of stuff you just don't anticipate...:doah:

OK I have the tailgate gap the width of a paint stick on each side...Is this good enough to do the filet welds?

Is that enough gap that the Blazer wont "shimmy" while driving and nick and scrape the gate or panels?

Need to know cause I really want to get that welding done!!!

that's a bit tight but doable... did you weld the tailpan to the floor?

Please tell me 'Yes" is the right answer....:doah: Tailpan is welded to floor...haven't ground down the welds yet...

I made an executive decision :haha:

I went ahead and welded...now I only got myself to blame if it is too close later on...would have liked to have been able to blame Ryoken if "he told me to do it"...:eek1:

Pictures look a lot the same as before, but progress has been made...I have spent 4 days at 10 hours a day....

looks good.... how are the door to qrter gaps?

I think that's where the majority of my time will be spent coming up....

I can get a good line on the bottom on both doors....I can get a good line on the door sails....but that back gap at the quarter is just plain funky on both...I did manage to get it even but the gap is almost 3/4 inch...

I can push the door back as far as the cowl/hinge bolt will allow and I will see what that gives me...

BUT...I am afraid I am going to have to delv into the black magic of "round rod" or some other form of gap closure...:dunno:

You've not commented on round rod or gap closure techniques....

Oh....and you would not believe how solid the quarters feel after the tightened bolts and filet welds...:waytogo:

let's see how far you can adjust the door's back first...

I have the tailgate aligned perfectly...I have to take it back off in order to sand and prime rear bed floor / tailpan

I drilled a 1/8 inch hole through each side down into and through the hinge...I intend to use a roll pin to realign...will this work for me?
:dunno:

I see tons of progress, and it is looking great! This has become one of my favorite build threads on CK5!!! I usually refrain from posting, because I don't have a lot to add to the technical discussion other than to sit in awe of others knowledge, and give the chief kudos for sticking this project out.
