Ryoken's Guide to Rust Treatment and Bodywork 101

Somebody please tell me that the rear lower quarter trim piece is off center in this photo. Should the two points on the wheel well not match? Which would mean that the rear piece gets angled downward some?

eh, it's no big... you can test it's dryness on the overspray that's on the masking paper to see how dry it is... like I said, base dries super fast.. like a lacquer...

I have 2 quick funny stories for ya about noob kids doing stoopid stuff stuff at the body shop... one kid walked up to a red hood i just painted and said, "is this wet?" as he was sticking his thumb in it... :eek1: :doah::haha:

the other was a kid in our other building detailing cars all afternoon, waxing, armor all-ing, etc... comes walking in the paint shop in between clear coats... and before i could say anything, the 2 cars he just walked by started fisheyeing all down their sides... "DUDE! STOP! TURN AROUND, LEAVE!!! :doah: :haha:

I was in an autobody shop many years ago, and they were laying pinstripe tape down the side of a car they were redoing.
One guy was inside working on the dash, having gotten in on the passenger side.
Other guy was laying the pinstripes from front to back, intending to come back and cut it at the door gaps.

About the time he was laying down the last piece, the phone rang. Guy who answered it yelled to the guy in the car that it was for him.
He said OK and opened the driver's side door............:doah:

i would just nail the frame together.. big bastard nails.. when done, rip/cut plastic off, and just knock over and stack the wood for later use... the nails will pull out easy enough..

Second: Use a square drive bit (Robertson Bit)

That way you won't blow out the ends of the 2x's and be able to use them again.

Mask the truck leaving only the white stripe area exposed

Spray white (when to pull tape? immediately or wait till dry)

when white is dry, mask the white off and spray gold

then clear whole thing

Chief, I have found it handy to have a razor blade handy when pulling tape...every once in a while you have a hangup on the tape.
Like Paul says as soon as its past tacky, and pretty much dry. I pull the tape at a slight angle away from the paint just sprayed, and watch the edge closely, if it starts to lift, hit it with the razor blade, then proceed on. I've even cut the edge of the paint/tape line to ensure it doesn't lift from the surface.

Yep. How mine is is how they should be. THis way, it lines up at the lower trim line on the body and the lower trim line at the tail gate.

Sometimes I hate eBay....these came up and I had to get them...they are OEM "pull offs" or NOS, they look brand new...for $29

I couldn't buy the replacement glass and rubber for that to fix up the parts yard ones I already got.....

Sometime you have to buy stuff because its such a great deal you know you will never see it again for that price...

Don't forget to sand the 2x4s too..... Then maybe a good nice weatherproof stain. Maybe a little bit of angle trim around the top to dress it up more, and a few potted plants around the base to give it a more homey feel!

:haha:

Might as well
