Ryoken's Guide to Rust Treatment and Bodywork 101

Starting with an empty door...what is the first thing that goes back in? Can the vent window go in before everything else?

Can I put the door lock and handles back on first or do they need to be later?

The LMC catalog has an exploded view but it doesn't say what goes in sequence...and I didn't write down the teardown order. :doah:

hmmm...found this for a 72:

1. Install lock & pawl.
2. Install door handle.
3. Loosely install window regulator.
4. Install division bar felt onto vent window.
5. Install vent window (already pre assembled).
6. Install rear window track (leave loose, no screws yet).
7. Install top/rear window felt.
8. Install glass & put on track (fun part).
9. Screw in rear window track.
10. Align & screw window regulator into place.
11. Install door opening handle mechanism.
12. Enjoy.

I can tell you i did a good bit of trial and error. But lets put it this way, i never needed to remove my door glass through any of my paint process. I just rolled them down.

I took it all out cause I had to sandblast and weld patches and rust treat the inside of the doors.

I also need to replace the nylon rollers on the regulator...I actually found the ones I ordered but not sure how the old ones come off and the new ones go on...looks like you have to drill out the old ones and use a big hammer and anvil to "brad" the new ones on

DO NOT USE A BIG HAMMER!!!! This is where you use the rivet set tool.

I THINK it's the same one used for wing window rivets. Like this one.

well...you may be right...I opened the package and it looks like the rivet size might be the same...now I just have to find my rivet tool...

I think I am going to have to clean out my entire house and throw everything that belongs to the Blazer into one box and then sort it out from there...

I can't find anything...and my passenger side vent rivet is wherever that rivet tool is...:doah::doah::doah:

I got one...just don't know where it is and it is too hot in the garage today...

I know from personal experience that welding and glass do not mix. A few bits of slag hit my windows and that was all.

They were fine when I came in for the night but the next morning they were spider webbed. One touch and they just shattered.

Anybody know what the OEM division bar glass channel looks like? Anybody installed this before and used aftermarket?

I'm not having any luck finding oem glass channel liner...found one GM for the drivers side but no right side.

Which brings the question...why is there a left and right vent glass division bar channel run? if rubber why wouldn't they be the same?

:dunno:

so I am cruising around today because it is 78* and clear blue sky with a cool breeze and as I am making a turn there are two kids, maybe 7 at the oldest and the little girl yells "niiiice truck!"

I chuckled...:haha:
