Ryoken's Guide to Rust Treatment and Bodywork 101

The other night they ran all the Jaws series. Saw the original blazer and didn't realize he had a Blue and white Jimmy in another.

Yeah...in Jaws2 he drove a Blue and White GMC Jimmy....JAWS2 began filing in June of 1977 so that would be a 1976 Jimmy in that movie...
Obviously they wanted to use a Blazer as the patrol vehicle again, and I am sure that they were surprised when the whole top wouldn't come off..I think they should have opted to take the top off anyway...but they left it on...

As cool as the 1976 Jimmy is, it just isn't a 1974 Blazer...JAWS made me a fan of the 1974...first impressions are everything I guess

Do you have the right strip in there (don't know, just asking) and did you emphasize the year of your truck when you ordered it? Reason I ask is the company I used said if the rug was incorrect they would send me the correct item as a replacement. You might find out if you have that option. I know that the rugs are different for a 84' and 85' because of the shapes of the floor pan under the front seats. Not a lot different but they are enough that the guy told me they use a different form when making the rugs. I used Stock Interiors out of the Carolinas. Very happy with the rug and their service. Only thing I didn't like was the cheap vents in the door rug panels. I switched them out with the originals.

Yeah...I ordered it and they made it when I ordered it, for a 1974. I put the front edge down first and if I had been real careful and just barely stuck the carpet under the edge of the front sill it might have just barely fit....but I punched holes for the roll bar and it is where it is....I'll order another piece someday and measure the bed and tell them it must be at least that long.

You don't even notice it with the tailgate closed...it's jus when you open it and see a couple inches of painted bed..

Nothing major here, but pretty cool to me...CRC asked permission to use my photo of my Blazer in the field on their Facebook site.

I sent them an email asking for some garage signs or banners (I want to eventually decorate my garage walls with automotive brands and stuff)

The marketing guy emailed me back to ask if they could use the photo.

Wonder what they will send me?:dunno:

Cool, but who/what is CRC? :dunno:

you might be saying..."why CRC"? Because I must have used two cases of that stuff while working on the Blazer...used it to clean a lot of things...including grease off the garage floor

I'd ask for some more product too. That might be easier to get from them than signage. Companies always seem worried how their signage might be used but once a product is in a consumer's hands, their liability is over. (in most cases)

I don't know how you get signage....other than being a dealer...and all the websites of major vendors now have those fill-in email forms now...nobody gives out their actual email address....CRC did have real email addresses...and I got an actual response from them.
I really want a BF Goodrich sign
I got a response from 3M pointing me to their merchandising page on their website....in other words, "if you want it, you have to pay for it".

I can't believe I finally got the windows in the door with weatherstrip and felts.
I had to take the panels back off but when I looked in to see what was going on it was evident what I missed...I didn't place the windows into the vent window track and push forward...then get the rear track on and tighten the bolts.

I may have tightened them too much because it takes a lot of torque on the window crank to get them up or down...but I figure they will loosen up...

I got the felts put in and man is it nice and quiet now...no windows rattling...

looks good shark hunter.. :waytogo:

thanks! Now I got the tailgate to go...hardest part will be remembering where and what order things go in...
I got to get some tailgate cables before I can do that...about $30 each...then the dash...inside and out...and finally the fiberglass top....I'd love to get that all finished this summer....the spending has caught up to me over the last 3 years plus I got a car payment now...

So getting stuff is slowed down for me...

but man she drives good....

I had to weld a backing plate on the drivers side door in the picture...I drilled two holes in the door and welded it from the front...you can see the burnt looking area around the bolt head

I still haven't used a clay bar or wax yet...would like to go over it with a fine glaze to remove small nibs and stuff...but it getting time it need a hard shell wax on it I think...

it's fine..

f*ck clay bars, new school, copout stuff..

sorry, old school body guy in me... :pimp:

clay bars really aren't for fresh paintjobs imo... factory job with daily sh*t to em that needs to be smoothed, sure...

paintdust need to be addressed with appropriate sandpaper spot sanding imo..

anyway.. leave it for a bit.. let it dry in somewhat.. end of the year, next spring, you can address it...

So best to just let it dry all summer and just keep it clean? :dunno:

yup... no wax ain't gonna hurt it.. you want the paint to fully dry in before addressing any dust, scratches, etc... want it to shine, just throw some quickie spray liquid wax on it...

Also...I want to black out the rear wheel wells and frame where primer got on it and the leaf springs...I thought rubberized undercoat was good for the tubs...but does it look hokey on the leaf springs? if so, what would you use on them? :dunno:
