Very nice! Close to home makes it even better.

I can understand having issues with the other half, I have plenty with mine. Sometimes getting away by yourself is just what's needed.

The scenery here is nice but the light for outdoor phone photography was awful, so you Will see mostly flora.....

The hiking is ridiculously easy- I don't remember it being so. But again, I was very alone so it was still nice. Like walking on your granddad's property or something

I climbed the tree to get a better view. I only got scared when the wind really picked up and I started thinking, what if I'm upsetting the balance and this tree falls off this cliff.... They would never find my body.... So I got down

This is what happens when you hike the coyote runs instead of the trails because you are looking for a greater challenge.

This one is a little sad... I was really close to park borders and I saw this blue thing out of the corner of my eye so I went to check it out. It was an empty bag of purina puppy chow.


Sadly. Next to it was this...... Clearly domestic dog- I would know those incisors anywhere- and the condition of the teeth say 7-8 months old..... smallish, maybe 25-35 pounds.

Then some interesting berries and flowers- sort of randomly appearing. Guess I need a field guide because I have no idea what they are. I can track a trail but can't identify plants at all.

Finally... My favorite beetles because they are HUGE but also because they have that cool blue pin striping around the outside of the shell.

I know some of you Texas peeps live near Joe Pool- it's worthwhile to get a lakefront camp spot for $25 a night, particularly if you go in the middle of the week like I did so it's almost like your own private beachfront. Would be a GREAT date spot if you had a western view like I did.

The state park is pretty ok- the roads are in poor condition but the bathrooms are clean.

Which reminds me-there are "primitive sites" but they are literally like a 2 min hike with a compost toilet like 40 yards away. Not exactly primitive in my book, nor most of yours.

Great place for non-hardcore hikers, small children, and apparently the mountain bike trail is awesome.

I love most all nature.... but that dude would have died by fire.........
that would have been MY therapy....

On another note, here it is nearly winter and i havent camped once.... STILL hiked a few stupid park trails... nothing cool though

the places you go all seem beutiful..... must just be the fact of the things you see and point out to us in your pics that close up of the sap on the log is my favorite....... and so simple

Thank you. I am so completely meant to be outside. I love everything about it and you're right, I see infinite beauty in very small things. I notice a lot. A lot of it I can't capture because I make choices about what "capture mediums" I carry, so I sacrifice the ability to capture foxes/deer/hawks blah blah- they move too fast- and instead I just SEE them.

Sometimes it's worth putting the camera down to see through your own eyes instead of through a lens....

Well in that case, I have plenty you can do outside. How good are you with a chainsaw and loppers, ditch bank blade and a rock rake

You can even camp for free. And we have wildlife too. And after your 8 hours national forest is across the street with a big 'ol lake

impromptu trip to Cleburne State Park

Ok so these pics aren't fantastic because this state park is something of a bust.

There is a limestone mine like 40 feet away, you can hear it alllllllllll night lonnnnnnnng- that incessant beep-beep-beeping of machinery backing up. The lake is really low and the park does absolutely nothing in the way of interactive guest programs.

But. I couldn't have asked for better weather so that was a bonus.
