Shorty the crewcab. (Been saved from the chopping block)

81 CC short bed conversion
I just see them as potential issues. I've heard lots of people complain about them leaking and such. Then seening silicone on these sorta backed that up.

I agree on a dually they look great. But when it comes to a SRW they don't don't seem right to me:dunno:

All 1-tons should have clearance lights period .

Its not hard to make them not leak . If you can’t figure out how to not make them leak then you probably don’t have the skills needed to remove them, just saying.

If it's a one ton? Then yes, that's the general made them, thats the way they should be. Imo. And if you have the proper gaskets, they are no issue.

Maybe you should replace the gaskets. But as old as that Truck is... If it's a problem, it's already there....

The 81 that started this thread doesn't have them, and has no old holes for them:dunno:
My maroon one didnt have them, but could have been a 3/4 ton cab for all I know. And I don't remember my old black CC dually having them either.

My plan for removing them involved welding the holes closed and doint the necessary smoothing and body work to make it right. I may replace them instead. But only if I can find nearly invisible ones.. don't personally like them myself

All the 1 tons have cab lights and tailgate lights from what I have seen/owned. Probably exceptions. I don't think it is worth the hassle to try and remove them, ton of work. New ones with amber or clear lenses are readily available with new gaskets cheap.

Went back and looked and my black dually did have them.. so maybe it was standard on dually and an option on SRW. Because the 81 is definitely a 1 ton, and doesn't have them or tailgate lights...:dunno:

If a was to have cab markers I'd rather have them in a moon visor... Which yes also has a potential to leak..

Code sheet on the 2wd CC..

Sort of odd,,,, it says 4.10 gears but id have thought higher than 3.73 even.
My Rumble Bee has 3.73, same trans, and 37" tires and it feels lower geared than this truck does. With it's 4.10s and smaller tires it should wind up way more in each gear. Some intersections that I take off in second in the bee with barely any throttle, I have to gas it and use low in this truck.

No G80 or other posi though... That's what I was looking for. That sucks.

Yeah was thinking it might be a 70.

It' be cool to find one a posi for it.

And I just realized I forgot the code sheet pic lol

There's limited slips/lockers/spools available for the dana 70hd. Cost around $700 bucks though (except spool, around $500)

Yeah.. I don't want to put that much into the 2wd chassis. I'd probably spend a couple hundred on a used one or something... Im just thinking it'd help out with the winter driving.

I've been looking on CL and there's a bunch of 70s for $300 or less. But I can't find any info online about carrier interchangeability.

I also seen that the 2wd has these factory tube headers .. kinda cool. I didn't know they existed on squares

had a 4wd crew sbc with factory headers .

watch your self on 70 rears . there is lots of sub models . not all guts swap around .

didnt @obijuank5 have one for sale new ? or did he decided to use it in his 70 front build ? just checked and yes it was him . but its sold and was 4.56-up-deeper .

I read that there's a few pinion offsets and such... But I figured the center section is probably the same...:dunno:. the gears are all the same I think, so they'd almost have to be. But be my luck they wouldn't be if I did shell out for an axle just to get the center.

It won't let me view it :dunno: . It comes up as weird smears. I've registered over there before a long time ago. But it tells me my email isn't recognized when I try and login. I have read the Dana 60 and 14bolt Bible's multiple times... And it let's me see those... So I tried re-registering and I can agree to terms, hit register, and it stops there.
