Shorty the crewcab. (Been saved from the chopping block)

81 CC short bed conversion
I need it able to be taken down for storage in the shop attic

Went to the shop for about an HR and a half. Did a quick scrape, scotchbright, wipe down, and paint in the engine compartment.
I figured it's not a show truck or full resto, so it didn't have to be perfect. It's a driver that will be wheeled. :D

So this is what I started with, and where I ran out of my one can of paint. (Forgot the other 3 :doah:.

I didn't get pics, but I also put about 60#s of oildry on my giant mess spot on the floor. Then ground a bunch of it in sort of doing the twist.

Hopefully it'll still pull some out of the concrete.

Also located the block drains for future use. lol :waytogo:

New oil pan gasket in. Engine compartment painted a little more. Gantry raised and set up in place. New poly mounts in. Throw out bearing changed. Little shop rearranging done. And trimmed a bunch of the bushes behind the shop... I think it was a good day :thumb:

Looks like I have 1.7 ratio rockers, and dual springs in the heads from the Bee. Decent supprise, kinda.
Plus, engine staged and ready. :waytogo:.

As soon as I figure out my mount issue :doah:

Ok. Wasnt sure.

I didn't know that the mounts changed through the years of the square, but my old ones are 3/4" shorter than the ones from the bee. And I already threw one away. The new poly inserts wouldn't fit the old ones either. So that sucks. And is all that's holding me up.

Also I realized a screw up today.... I should have gotten black gaskets :doah:

I have 1 of the old mounts. But the other one seems to be gone in the wind :dunno:. All I can think of is I did a quick run through a week ago on my way to the dump and maybe grabbed the other off the floor. I didn't want to use it anyway. But it sucks that I got these poly mounts and they don't bolt up. I'm thinking I'll just massage the holes enough to make em work. Or second option is plate over the crossmember pads and drill new ones.

I just said F'it and bought 2 new old style mounts and the poly inserts to go in them.
The ones I have that were too big will end up in the dually later, so I'm not really out anything.
They'll be here Tuesday so hopefully by mid to end of next week this thing will be semi drivable again.
I say semi, since I still have to deal with power steering and the brakes will be iffy until I get the other axles installed.

Engine in. After a few odd issues.

I made a home brew puller for the pilot bearing.
Then drilled a 3/8 hole in a scrap piece of bed frame to make A flywheel stop for torquing the pressure plate bolts.

And found out my valve covers won't fit in this truck :dunno::doah:

Even after massaging the firewall and booster bracket. So on went the old crappy ones :notworthy:

Ended up sitting in place just needing bolted up. I need to get bolts tomorrow.

Not that I know of :dunno:. It was a newer cab, but I don't know if that matters at all..?

Where it was hitting it would have had to have a 3" body lift to make a difference. And it still probably wouldn't have been enough. Sort of boggles me. These will do for now I hope. And I'll get different ones at some point.

It's only got an RV cam so the low covers should be ok.

Other truck did have some clearancing done at the booster bracket.
Doesn't look like it had a body lift by the frame to floor pan gap.

And it did have some firewall massaging, but not much

Yes. Found and ordered the right ones finally

Can't see the bushings really, but it shows where the mount is on the pad
