Shorty the crewcab. (Been saved from the chopping block)

81 CC short bed conversion
I've been driving the wheels off of this thing lately. I ended up richening up the carb screws about a 1/16 of a turn. And I advanced the timing about a degree.

It runs better around town now. Takes off easier with no stumble.

I bought a GPS speedometer for now.
As little as I liked them before, I like em even less now. Granted it was $30.
It sometimes takes me a couple miles to get it to come up with a reading. When I slow down for a town it's still telling me I'm doing 60 300 feet after I got on the brakes. And it's 6 miles an HR faster than the GPS on my phone, and the speedometer in our minivan..
But I have at least SOME reading lol

Runs down the road and rides great though.
If I ever hit the bump stops I can't feel it. I'm sure I am, but I can't tell. Big lifted 1 ton biatch rides smoother than my 2wd burb lol. One of these days that I'm off it's time to do some 4 wheeling and make it earn it's keep finally :waytogo:.

Just gotta find a day that's NOT sunny as hell and 90*+ though.

Well, finally went out. Didn't wanna get too crazy first time out and had the wife, kid, and nephew with. So we stuck to mostly dry dirt roads.... Not much else around anyway lol.

Probably around 200 mile round trip.
Truck did awesome. All the gauges stayed where they should, 4x4 worked great (the 2 times I decided to use it ), and the few semi flexi parts went well.

All in all a good first outing.

On a side note,,,,. When I took that pic on the dirt road, I opened the door, turned and just stepped out like normal. :doah:. Forgot the ground was 3' lower than it should be :haha:. About busted myself lol.

Look before you leap :yikes::D

Lol, no. Not until it has a rev limiter, or an automatic..... Or both.

Look at how close you are!

Quick story. Back in the day I ran my 79 there a few times. Did I win? Nope. Did I have fun? Yep!!

I know, super close... There's one even closer to the north in Miles too. It's big around here. Lots of my buddies have blown up their chit there lol.
One buddy at my old job had a 2500hp exhibition rig he ran there. No idea if he still does.
We don't even go watch em for some reason :dunno:

Closer then 1/2 hour drive time? Thats minimum drive time for anyplace in the Midwest.

That's funny... The miles one is actually the SAME distance away lol

I'm working days, 6-6 Sat, Sun, Mon.

My wife seen that and was super excited and saying yes, yes, yes about running our truck lol. As soon as I get the trailer setup to haul it in it's current configuration, we probably will :waytogo:.

Looks like I have some trailer work to do

I need to either make my fenders removable, make them into drive overs, or make some bolt in inserts to drive over.

It would probably be a good idea to bolt the winch on it for that trip too lol.

After I get a 12k for the truck, the 9.5k gets put on the trailer anyway.

I finally swapped the hydroboost unit and the power steering pump from the bee into this. I didn't have the fluid to fill/bleed it tonight, so that's tomorrows job.
I'm hoping that takes care of it, because the no power steering thing makes it suck to drive.

Now have the pump, steering gear, hydro unit, and hoses from the bee all in this. Same axle and tires even.
I can't imagine why it wouldn't work now :dunno:
Brakes and steering worked awesome in the bee sooo...?
Got my fingers crossed I know that.

Night and day difference :woot:. Great brakes, and super good steering now. And both work well at the same time too. Wish I'd have just done this a long time ago.

Also I didn't realize there are different shaft lengths between booster units. This is the one out of this truck.

I did t get a pic of the one from the bee. But that shaft doesn't even stick out past the bolt flange. The master from the bee had a 1" 5/16 bolt shoved up in it to make up the difference.... I figured "hey, it worked in the bee!" So I put the same bolt in this master :dunno:. Works good lol.

Because I was sick of no power steering and crappy brakes. I knew changing the pump that I'd have to bleed it again. And figured be my luck that wouldn't fix it. Then I'd be in there doing the boost unit too. This way I just put all the stuff I knew worked in and bled it once n done.

I don't really know what's in the boost unit, bit there has to be something in there that does something :dunno: lol

all his brake and steering problems he has been having . sounds like he had a bad hydroboost unit not flowing correctly .

and @Shawn just found a problem with his brakes hanging from a pushrod to long so maybe he can chime in on what he found info wise to set it up .
