OK I've welded one too many bearings onto my spindle and my Suburban is waiting at a Park n Ride for me to come fix it.
I found a spindle and hub at a local junkyard for 100 bucks-they pull it. Well when they said pull it I assumed they'd ...y'know....pull it. Instead they cut the whole hub, rotor, knuckle and all off. Now I shouldn't whine much because I did get more than I paid for BUT now that it's no longer anchored by a nice heavy truck is this going to be as much a pain as I'm thinking it will? I have no vice to lock it in, is beating this thing loose going to be possible?

Sweet. I'm guessing you don't have air tool

Unfortunately no. And all my tools ( what I've got) are in the truck and I get to do the job at a Park n Ride and hope I don't get fined or towed.

I do have a bottle of map gas though. Hope it helps

The only bolts that may fuss are the 6 holding the spindle. If you have PB blaster, it works very well.

I would try to disassemble the donor before you take yours apart

I'm more concerned about breaking the spindle loose from the knuckle than the bolts being stubborn. It takes some good whacks with a sledge when the spindle has the whole truck as an anchor

Hopefully you don't whack it where the threads or the bearing rides.
I use a wood block on the stubborn ones. Tap on each side one at a time until it starts walking out

Wish I was close enough to lend a hand. Sorry for the trouble

I appreciate the offer anyway man. Sincerely
I'll be doing this mess Sunday so tomorrow after work I'll tear it apart to the spindle and soak it down with Blaster overnight. Maybe I'll get lucky.

Maybe tighten the nuts until they break the studs off. Then try driving the studs out.

You might also try driving a small putty knife between the spindle and knuckle to break the rust bond. Don't know if there's room though.

Rampage I've got plenty of utility knife blades that should fit into the seam. I'll clamp one in a pair of vice grips and give that a shot

hahaha. Well, I'm sending some mojo your way that it all goes smoothly.

pb blaster works really well on rust. soak it well and often. going to need some patience walking that spindle off.

Yeah pb is pretty good. If you dont have that then a 50/50 mixture of acetone and atf is really good. Soak the shit out of that thing.
