Stomis' 94 Street Truck - Snail Trail

Im going to say it first

SNOWBALL!

A used nv should last awhile until you can score a t56. Just make sure its in gear before you drop the hammer. No clutch dumping

Stop it shut up!

Yeah that's the idea. No power shifting. No terrible clutch dumps, not that I could hook it anyway.

Very successful trip to the junkyard today. Lots and lots of gmt400s stripped of their grilles. Was looking for that pre 94 sport grill. Finally found one and then I stumbled on a 95+ grille that was color matched to the truck instead of chrome. It was in awesome shape and I really liked it not in chrome so I brought it, head lights and buckets, and marker lights. Plus a chevy horn button. I also found a standard cab pre94 silverado with a full interior in it that Im going to go back and get some pieces out of.

But heres the pics of the flat black front end. My GMC base model work truck is growing up into a Chevy Street Rod :thumb:

Love the grill!!! Way better than the wt grill fer sure.

Looks like it's gonna be a sweet rig :waytogo:

Snapped an underhood of the new air cleaner to match the valve covers.

I started to break down my 442 into parts. Gotta trim the damn fat around here, too much ****.

So my buddy suggested that since my AR23s have such a thick flange with loads of meat on them that I get them double drilled to 5x5 to go on my truck with mag lock lugs. I said hey thats not a bad idea so I threw them next to the truck. What do you guys think? I called one machinist who quoted me $200 if there was enough material to drill them, which there is but he wants to see them.

I mean its half the price of buying knock off prostars that I kinda had my heart set on but idk these could look good...

Just ordered 1in drop coils for the front and 3in drop leafs for the rear to take some of the rake out. Its a little excessive in person and I want to get rid of some of the tire to fender gap. Figure if the back comes down to much Ill swap the drop shackles for shorter ones.

Im ordering 4.30s, detroit true trac, and solid pinion spacer tomorrow from the speed shop. Going to pick up an aluminum mosier cover with the preload screws when I change the oil after the first 500 miles.

Ive gotta give myself a punch list now for this thing :doah:

Lower it and get it aligned.

Redrill my axle shafts and front hubs to run my AR23s so Ive got some wheels :thumb:

S10 NV3500 w/ hurst shifter, new clutch, and aluminum drive shaft.

Holley dominator throttle body self learning EFI

AFR 185s w/ competition porting and new roller cam.

Consider long and hard whether I want a 112 maggy ontop of the motor or if its not worth it w/o an intercooler.

Build 396 stroker bottom end to swap the top end onto.

**** me :doah:

:haha:

Terrible picture but the truck is now sitting lower in the rear than the front :doah:

Put 3" drop leaf springs in but didnt have time to put the 1in drop coils in the front. Im planning on dropping the front 1in with them and picking the back up an inch buy swapping around the zero rate leafs that were in the pack to thicken it. Hopefully it will sit with just a slight rake.

Heres a good reason to change your leaf springs...

And I wound up doing a u bolt flip because my stock ones were rotted to hell...

I'll never understand what the purpose of putting square style u bolts in something is...

No although Ill probably go with that for the $200 more. The Holley Dominator has been phased out by the HP EFI line. They were still selling the dominator kits a couple weeks ago and were advertised as re-flashable to the HP EFI firmware but I guess they sent them back and repackaged them.

Generally speaking though to answer your question, yes I will be going with one of the holley products. The Terminator is the full blown race system, HP EFI is street/strip, and the avenger is the base cruiser/entry level system.

Looks good!!!

Had a 2/4" drop on my old 97 when I had it. Used drop spindles though. Def makes the truck look like it should and keep it drive able

4.30s and the detroit tru trac are in! Didnt really get a feel for it since I didnt wanna romp on it before they break in for at least a few heat cycles. All I know is it leaves much easier and god damn does first gear run out fast. Next up is that s10 nv3500 with the shorter 1st and tighter gear pattern. Had to have been the easiest gears Ive ever done... Stock pinion depth shim was dead on and I only moved the carrier shims 3 thous tighter to get .006 backlash. And I only did that because I felt the .010 was too loose even though it was in spec. My speedo is off 10 miles an hour now too lol.

Im going to do a fresh clutch, s10 nv3500, short shifter and aluminum driveshaft next. Going to run 1350s at both ends. Also decided I might as well throw some street cclip eliminators and mosier axles in when I change the gear lube at 500miles.

After that im going to order the Holley injection. Hopefully january. I wanna get my 350 block on the stand to build a fresh 396 with a roller cam and AFR heads this winter/spring. I plugged some numbers into desktop dyno (not that its downright correct) but the setup Im looking at running is estimated at 550hp and 500ftlbs all motor. Ive been itching to build a motor myself for years and I think Im finally gonna do it damn it!

Its a fun project building a motor. Iv got a few under my belt now. The only thing I am not a fan of is stretch to yield bolts. They sketch me out because I would rather just read a torque spec and be done. The 04 8.1L I rebuilt over last winter had alot of them.

This is surely one of my favorite non build build threads. I always liked TASTEFULLY done 2wd high HP trucks.

Yeah hopefully the wife will be interested. I see her looking when Im doing some stuff wondering how things are working, plus shes interested in what the truck looks like cause she likes it and knows we're gonna be cruising shows this summer.

I basically wanna cram as much streetable NA power into a stock small block as you can. I dont wanna run a 400 block so the most you can get from a 350 is 396...

On an up note though the truck loves the 4.30s. It doesnt buck any more and runs like a raped ape now that I change the plugs and found and replaced those two burnt to **** plug wires :doah:

Getting the wife and or kids involved is the ticket. My kids and fiancee love the truck. So, she looks the other way when it comes to spending and wrenching. Once they realize the fun its easy.

Just ordered some smoked LED lights for the truck all the way around and some manual sport style mirrors. Didnt need that $300 :D

Pulled my DRAC out since my speedo was 15+ miles off at highway speed. I dont know why my 94 had a 90-91 style DRAC in it but who cares it was half the soldering :waytogo:

Works like a charm with the dip switches installed and reads 1mph faster than my GPS speedo on the phone.

Threw some $50 China manual sport mirrors on. I cant believe the quality I got for $50. Theyre solid as all hell...

Also found out that apparently my production date must have been halloween since theres a pumpkin grease penciled onto my door panel lol.

Thats pretty cool. Makes it even more unique. Kind of like finding writing behind drywall or in cabinets of houses from previous owners.

How do you like the Truetrac? I have always wanted to try one out and see how it preforms.

I like the trutrac. It does exactly what it should. Spin both tires and feel like nothing is there cornering. I havent tried launching it hard too see how it holds and what I picked up for traction yet.

I switched out my plug wires for a fresh set of MSD Streetfires and put some nice fiberglass boots on them so I wont have anymore damn burnt wires.

Also put my new smoked headlights, corner lights, and turn signals in. They look sweet but fit like the ebay junk they are so some hole slotting is in order to get them fitting correctly.

BOOM
