Stomis' 94 Street Truck - Snail Trail

Damn man like reading your post and seeing your work! You do some nice work there!

O and I did my first exo cage yesterday. Learning to finally use the tube bender Ive had for 2 years. Its honestly the one thing Ive always been scared of simply out of the fear of wasting money/material in the learning process. Good news is there was enough left over to do a 6 pt in the truck :D

Shock mounts on the axle... Dragging the earth around and shit lol

Also got my leaf springs put together for spring under. I did some quick math on solid works and straightening out my spring mounting should give me .5in where I have 1.75 in the back and 1.75in where I have .5in the front right now vs the tire. Yay maths.

So why so long ? Why not get a shorter shock ?

Thats the shock size to have full range of motion on the travel of the axle. The major thing is having the shocks straight up and down so they really do their job. These shocks are actually shorter than the stockers its just how theyre mounted.

Not like it's an off road truck either....

Ground all that garbage off and got the leaf under mocked up.

Im gonna push the front spring hanger down about 2in more than the stock location. I really dont want to be stuck with the truck lower than I wanted. I can always put a longer shackle on it to bring it down or even a small block but going back up with spring under is impossible without changing leaf springs.

I had the exact same story for my tube bender. finally pulled it out of mothballs and only messed up one bend so far and that was me being a moron.

Sucks about Photobucket, they got me also but your thread is way more in depth than mine. I enjoyed reading through it from time to time

Caltrac stack. I don't really know how they do theirs but I didn't want steel rubbing on steel so I made the hangers to fit 1/8 thick bronze thrust washers between the caltrac plates. Guess time will tell if that was a good idea or not.20170718_181430.jpgSpring hangers. I figured some adjust-ability would be good.
20170718_185425.jpg Mocked up. Hind sight was 20-20 on this one. I should have calculated the angle of the frame to keep the height holes straight up and down. I set the center hole to the exact stock wheel base. The whole above and below are just under 3/16s back/forward. Im not gonna loose sleep over that...20170718_185447.jpg The new spring angle, or should I say lack there of. Ive been trying to break up doing this project to a couple hours a night after work. Tomorrow Ill take final measurements, burn the hangers in and set my pinion angle.

Burnt the hangers in and painted.

Whipped up new shackles. Goes from stock size to .5in drop and 1in drop. I was on the fence about using what I had but I didnt really feel like shimming them with washers since my spring bushings are way narrower than stock now. I'm feeling good about the adjust ability I'm going to have between the shackles and the front hangers. I will say after assembling the caltracs on the front of those leaf springs with thrust washers and everything, next time Im going to oversize everything so I can oversize the spring bushing and hang everything on it...

btw for the record I totally understand the cost of the tapered shackles now from aftermarket guys. Not exactly fun to make.

I am digging the spring angle also, kinda ended up doing similar on my blazer and seems like the a\s might actually be below 100% which was what I was shooting for, not sure how your numbers work out.

Hmmm thats a good question. Is there a calc to plug leaf numbers into?
