Stomis' 94 Street Truck - Snail Trail

diggin the build Vinnie!
ring filers are the cats ass!

Is it true you can't pump your own gas in NJ?

Dont think you're so smart threading bolts into your block to keep track of whats what. Sometimes you screw one back in and it rubs the counterweight on your crank and you chase a mysterious scraping noise and stiff spot in your fresh bottom end for 2 hours...

Crank is plasti gauged at .0015 - .0020. According to most platigauge reads tight by .0003-.0004 so I should be .0018 - .0024. Either way its perfectly within spec.

Not too much of an update. I started dropping pistons in the thing but was fighting the POS advance auto ring compressor from the start. Wound up whipping the thing across the room after I cracked a bottom compression ring trying to tap it in with the handle hammer... Stupid to try to force it I know.

So on to summit to order some stuff that came today. Comp double roller timing set, fixed size tapered piston ring compressor at 3.80, oil pump, and another set of rings :doah: Set me back another $110. Live and learn I guess. I'll never cheap out on a tool like that again.

So last friday I took the truck up to work and new something was wrong off the bat. 3hour drive with a seriously burnt plug wire was no fun. Went to the garage and fixed that today since we had a half day. Decided while I was there to try spraying out the idea for a tailgate stripe I had. Looking for some opinions...

I dont know what nationality you are, but to me, the blacked out area on the tailgate only, makes it look Mexican.

it's just too big an area.. also being the height of the taillights makes it look more like your trying to do some deal with them... not the muscle car gig you where going for, like Cuda's, challengers, etc ran in the day...

what color is the rig going eventually?

I say do something in satin with the cowl and be done..

Was also considering something like the original Chevrolet band in flat black

Or even blacked out like this, with a black tonnau, and hood.

Single black body panels look like you just replaced them but are too cheap to paint them. They look incomplete.

that's why I say just do the cowl itself, or even a fat stripe on top of it..

I think a narrower band on the gate in satin, with stenciled out letters showing the gun metal gray would be cool..

I know what you guys mean. Just trying to think of how to make a narrower stripe match up to the front end being flat black full width.

Maybe I'll just do the hood the body color and flat black the sides of the cowl like this.

Yay progress. Its amazing what actually having the correct not chintzy tool will do for a job. I have to say I'll never use an adjustable piston ring compressor again, just pay the $25 for a summit fixed size tapered ring style one and be done....

So now I have a short block :waytogo:

Gotta order a cam this week so I can totally button up the bottom end.
