so i am loving the job i have these days sealing driveways . it feeds my OCD and my instant gratification i love to get from a job well done . the setup we have at work has treated him good for years the way he likes it . but as a guy who loves to find the best / easy / fastest way to do stuff the time has come for a NEW sealer trailer setup .

i found a good solid used clean 550gal sealer tank / a almost 20ft long 2 axle trailer and a like new brush box and pickup tool box for a smoking deal from a friend who was selling out and these were project parts left over he never got to .

i have so many cool ideas for this rig and will be building it over the off season . so pics in a week or 2 when he digs out the stuff and i go get it .

plans :

low set in frame of tank for low COG
pickup toolbox for storage of stakes and yellow tape and other supplies
bulk material bins for sand / chip stone / other media for small crack pre filler
platform on rear for blower unit on wheels and 2-3 hot tar dispense pots & flip down ramp for easy on/off
200 lb hot tar on trailer hot pot with 2 sealed burners for all the day to day hot tar sealing of cracks
15 gal water tank for clean up jobs or wash hands and tools off each day . and a 12volt rv water pump on it
cone holder stacks
weed eater rack
gas can storage
brooms and shovel storage tubes and rack
maybe a 12volt motor and reduction box to spin and mix the bulk sealer tank each day over a gas engine or by hand

also plan for 2 new dexter torsion axles to keep it super smooth and have brakes on all 4 tires
need to figure out beefy tire options yet after mock up is done
bulk tank on a hinge in the rear and a trailer jack to crank it up to empty it when empty and 2 pins to secure when in transport
spreader bar for parking lot jobs for direct dump of sealer like water trucks at race tracks or job sights
dispense spout both sides of trailer to stay off traffic side at all times no mater what side of the street the job is on

starting to shop for some small parts like a 2 5/16 coupler / mount plate / safety chain mounts and hooks weld on style / 7 pin junction box for the wiring and trailer jack for when unhooked from the truck .

so today i ordered 2 pair of rubber end bumpers for the frame rail ends . 1 8k drop leg top wind tongue jack . 1 8ft 7 way plug box pre wired unit and a 2nd box only . this will give me a box up front and down the rear for wiring in stuff easy . and i got some weld on safety chain tabs for 3/8" chain .

waiting to here back from a seller on the 2-5/16" coupler i want . then i can buy his if the deal is good or someone elses . also getting a 5 position mounting plate for the coupler .

i have a good side crank used 2k jack i will be using to make the sealer tank tip to the rear when emptying the tank for big jobs . saves from having to find ways to get the tank pointed up hill . ( work smarter )

plan is the 85" hub face axle kit and 16" 10ply tire package .

the axles under it now are 3k axles if that . there small 5 x 4.5" bolt pattern . 1 brakes and 1 idler . and questionable condition and tires are SHOT .

ordered the safety chain tabs from grainger on 10/05/2020 in the am . . . . they arrived today 10/06/2020 .

AA battery for size reference . setup for 3/8" chain . weld to the frame and then pin in the chain .

got a bit of mockup done today . set the rails at 4ft out the back past the fenders . this will give me the room for the 2 hot pour tar pots and driveway blower unit on a ramped platform . then i have 8ft in front of the tank to set the hot tar melter / toolbox's / brush box / material boxes . then i can also use the 2 spaces on ether side of the tank if i wish to do so . the tank is sitting on the axles for now until i get it in the shop and install a few crossmembers for it to mount up on .

got my 8ktrailer jack with drop leg today . also my 2 electric wiring boxes and 1 is pre wired with a super nice molded 7 wire plug and flexable wire . then the main coupler 5 position plate showed up also .

made a few phone calls to check on prices for the hot tar machine and dispenser unit and liked who i was dealing with . so i think i will be using them as there 2hr away with stock of spare parts if need be . they did not pressure me 1 bit like the first place did . and told me call in monday am and talk with the owner on the products as he uses them every day so he has real world feedback . nice place via the phone call i had i think .

so i have been doing some math with known weights that will be on this trailer and i think i will be about maxed out at the 10k class . so i might just spend the few extra and go to 8 lug axles and get 14k weight capacity .

so i have been looking a lot for deals on trailer axle kits with springs / hangers / hardware / tire & wheel combos all in one . 2 places come up a lot online or on ebay .

Few pics of the non wheeled tar melter for the trailer .

The super burner unit and its wind rated to run when in transport and not blow out . Fire 1st thing and let it simmer all day . No more waiting for each job the buggy to warm up .

The unit on wheels . I was looking at mid level . But after add-ons I wanted it was cheaper to buy this top of the line already done up . Digital temp read out and ignitor controls up top also . Left handle for agitator as your working . Adjustable spring pull tension for controls . Boxed in scraper with valve drain plug off plate when up . Leads to less drips and trails of tar .

Rear wheels are on ball bearings now . Lesser models or brands still do brass bushings that SUCK at life span . 2 wheel front for more stability . Better designed sealed burner also with a round pin point flame head for direct heat on the bottom were you need it .

been doing the math for buying the propane tanks per lb of size and also fill charge each time . . i was thinking 2 20lb for the wheeled unit and 2 30lb for the mounted melter . but after all the math its about 1.00 more per lb to get the extra 10lbs . and fill charge is way more and weight of lifting the tank each time . i am picking 20lb tanks for easy to get / cheep fill all the time / size is about the same as 15lb units but you get 5 lbs more for pennys more .

Got my propane tank bracket clamp kit yesterday. 1 tweek of the band and clamp it went to the 20lb bbq tank . These will make for fast change out on the trailer for burner unit .

ordered a curt 56196 tail light converter unit . under 27.00 bucks off ebay .

lets you do old 2 wire to newer 3 wire conversion for trailer lights . and since my plan is red for stop and tail and amber for turn this is the fast easy simple way to do the job . also in the mix will be a few amber strobes also for when parked on the side of the street working a driveway .

plan is 3 pods per side with 6" oval lights in each one . not sure on layout yet on the trailer tho . thats later after most of it is all built up .
