Swettysblazer's 1991 K5 Trazer: ONE TONS!

Brian- speaking from personal experience I had a lot of fun driving my carb'd truck with 37's & locked rear all over Rausch. Is it easier now with my setup....yes....but I love the thrill of the challenge and I enjoyed that setup alot. I ran the D44/14FF for years until I locked the front. Once I was locked I kept breaking shaft's every trip (every single trip). I vote to keep the front open, this will help in turning the wheels with the push/pull steering and pickup some rims and wheel that thing.

I would post up in pirate that your looking for a flattop Chevy knuckles & eventually you'll find a deal and maybe even a used steering arm and a junk yard pump and install some crossover. I built my truck one step at a time, it wasn't the most cost effective way but I constantly wheeled it, honed my wrenching skills and didn't break the bank

P.S. Real men drive sticks....Real men who know how to wheel run auto's

Easy there with the post script

I think Brian has a crossover deal at a good price possibly on the table. I don't know if it is too good to pass up. At least I think he should get the knuckle on and maybe wait until your ready for the steering box to install the rest of the crossover.

Lock the rear for sure, but I have noticed a big difference with my front locked. Lockers for me equal taking it easier and less skinny pedal.

I enjoy the more technical aspects of offroading so maneuverability is important to me( and decent wheel speed ) I have had my front axle in every stage open, locked, locked with hydro and I didnt enjoy the locked axle with just crossover.
No offense Rich but I think that Brian's wheeling style is more like mine. :flipoff10::flipoff10:

Yeah, the one thing I'm worried about with this setup is the front, especially if I do lock it. I think what I am going to do is just let her ride for now, get a rear locker, and just bang her till she breaks.

I used to let my 44 just rip, never broke... until I locked it:whistle:

Oh and buy 37" pit bull rockers, you'll thank me later

Where do you find pit bull deals? I would consider the 35s if they wern't 100$ more per tire than the MTRs.

oh and Happy Birthday you fool! :pimp:

Lock the rear axle and call it good. Great addition offroad and still decent road manners. Steering is less of an issue.

I offered him a deal on my d44 knuckles with wfo xover arms...:whistle:

Waiting on acceptance/counter offer

What are you doing as far as wheels/tires? 15" 8 lugs and your current treads?

Brian, put that locked rear in and drive it till the wheels fall off. I drove mine with stock steering and locked rear for years and it got me many places I didn't think I could go. I'm tired of everone over building their trucks. Just make small necessary upgrades and run it until you get bored and want to start tackling harder terrain.

You have been through plenty of trails with push pull. Going cross over just makes it easier to turn, thats all. Can you go through it yes, can you go through it at a decent pace no. But at the same time your group may have a slower pace than you. I found that out while leading the group at bundy a few weeks ago. There was a big gap between me and the rest of the group. Granted I have t cross over and hrydro assist, and almost no body to care about.

Sent you one....

Josh, that's the plan right now, unless I find a set of wheels and tires on Craigslist for about the same amount I am going to have to pay for rims.

I agree. I feel like on here sometimes, ten bolts are considered sin to wheel on. I've been doing it for a couple years now, and haven't broken anything. I just want a little more piece of mind.

I can't go as fast as everybody else usually because of my ****ty springs. CHeck your PM's, though.

I am really really really slow.

Yes, yes you are.

Swettysblazer's 1991 K5: The WonderChicken.52 swap question

If you break a front shaft you can still drive home. You can always put a locker in later. They go in really easy.

I need to get all this done before my student loans kick in, my income will be dropping drastically after that happens :doah:
