Granted I've never done it but the resounding theme on the forum here seems to be that 52's on the front is great off road and not great on the road.

I would just go for some good lift springs.

I read that as well. I still have my sway bar, and the quick disconnects, but it might be more hassle than it's worth, I'm thinking.

You've seen how well my front springs work.

If you wanna save some cash, just order some straight from ALCAN like shady did.
Mine drives down the road perfectly fine, and I took the swaybar out.


And do a shackle flip with your stock 52s in the rear. I am amazed at how much the flip made my rear springs ride sooo much better. And flexy.

I may do that.

Hell, lots of guys on here have kicked ass and taken names with regular Tuff Country or BDS lift springs. Flavor with DIY4x and ORD parts and carry on.

My truck does pretty damn well for the Rough Country springs in it. I get more flex out of them than I thought I ever would. I'm just getting ahead of myself. My truck works fine the way it is, I'll get a rear locker for the 14 bolt and go from there.

Decent axles, good gearing, capable tires, and a locker in the back and you'll be amazed what you can do.

Honestly, probably never. I love driving stick, but I also like when I'm wheeling that I can just drop it in gear and not worry about it.

Or, I lock the rear, buy new rims, and call it a day and wheel it. I'm thinking of this latter plan, but I'm not sure. Guidance?

Exactly. I don't wanna get over my head here. The truck works well- about as well as a stock truck can do for the wheeling that we do. I don't wanna screw that up. I just want some beefier axles so I don't have to worry as much.

Brian- speaking from personal experience I had a lot of fun driving my carb'd truck with 37's & locked rear all over Rausch. Is it easier now with my setup....yes....but I love the thrill of the challenge and I enjoyed that setup alot. I ran the D44/14FF for years until I locked the front. Once I was locked I kept breaking shaft's every trip (every single trip). I vote to keep the front open, this will help in turning the wheels with the push/pull steering and pickup some rims and wheel that thing.

I would post up in pirate that your looking for a flattop Chevy knuckles & eventually you'll find a deal and maybe even a used steering arm and a junk yard pump and install some crossover. I built my truck one step at a time, it wasn't the most cost effective way but I constantly wheeled it, honed my wrenching skills and didn't break the bank
