Swettysblazer's 1991 K5 Trazer: ONE TONS!

Cool, thanks guys. I'll check it out and see what I come up with. I wanna try and get something before Rausch Creek.

So I've been prepping the truck for the wheeling trip at Rausch this weekend. Took the back seat out, my subs, and some other little crap and mounted my hi-lift and spare axle shafts. Gives me a lot more room to pack my crap in and be able to move around.

Oh, and I picked up one of these bad boys today :D

Was on sale, so I decided to pick it up and see what happens. I am going to mainly use it for rust repair, but it may see some time for sliders/bumpers etc.

Sweet :waytogo: I have already burnt through an entire 11lb spool of wire with mine just on the K30 !! You will be amazed by how many things you have to weld that you never realized, once you own a welder :dunno: :D

Yah hes so right brian. So many things become, oh i can just cut that apart, cuz i can just weld it up later.... For example to get trannys out of rigs with a y pipe under the bell housing, it used to be damn, gotta unbolt those manifold bolts that are so rusted you know they are gonna snap..... Now its get the sawzall, cut the pipe off flush on both sides of the tranny, then after putting the tranny in, clean up the edges and weld it on. Never had one break either, and one dudes rear exhaust mount broke during wheeling after doing this the same night, it was just hanging the whole time and the weld never broke:thumb::woot: you will seriously love having it.

I'm definitely psyched :D I am gonna start looking for a bottle for it, and after this weekend I am going to pull all the carpet and stuff out of the truck to see how bad the rust is...

I took the truck to Rausch Creek this weekend to wheel with some cool people from the forum and some friends of theres. Overall, the truck did very well and surprised for being a mostly stock rig with just a lift and tires. A couple of things I need to address though:

Number 1: As you can see in this picture, I need new body mounts pretty badly. When really flexed out, the fan was hitting the bottom of the shroud and wearing it out. The running joke of the weekend was that I could outtwist Wayne's buggy :doah:

So, my question is, I want to do a 1 inch body lift while I'm at it. Would I need to get new body mounts along with the body lift, or can I just throw in the body lift without getting new mounts?

Issue Number 2: Fender trimming. The 35's rub, and bad. I knew that they would, but I was unsure if I would ever get the truck twisted up enough to get to the point where they would. Well, I did. So I think some fender trimming is in order for me to make my tires love life a little bit better.

Issue Number 3: I need a 14 bolt... badly....

stupid not to do urethane mounts when your in there doing the 1".. that's what I did.. you need em, as pictured... and make sure all your lower cup washers are ok, you'll need to reuse them.. if rotted, LMC has em..

but ORD can hook you up with a 1" that comes with the longer bolts, and a urethane mount kit... one stop shopping....

Cool, thanks. I'll do that then. What's the easiest way to lift the body? Do one side at a time and jack it up?

I've always taken measurements then loosen all of them, then jacked up one side at a time and installed new parts, tighten loosely, do the other side, check measurements and re tighten :D

On the 14, are you looking to go 8 lug or trying to find a 6 lug SF ?

Ok, thanks.

Depends if I can find a matching set, but then if its 8 lug I'll need to get new wheels. Which really isn't a big deal, but if it's one axle I could always get the outers from an 8 lug 10 bolt :dunno:

What gears do you have now, and are you looking to change or stay the same? I'm just asking because I "think" I may know where there is a 6 lug SF 14 bolt (at a local pick n pull) and if not I think there is a guy in MD selling a 14/60 combo (from a K30) ............:D

If your gona wheel rocks brian, you may as well go big or go home....

No literally you will have to go home to fix all the broken parts all the time....:haha:

I'd like to regear to at least 4.10's, right now it has 3.73's and while its not too bad, i think it would be a lot better to get some deeper gears in there. I'll go check the classifieds :thumb:

I know guys running 38" tires in the sand on ten bolts and have no problems with them. Its very forgiving. But if i was runnin rocks no way that would last very long without dumping the same amount of money you could in 1 ton stuff. And brian if your gonna trim, please take some time and make it look decent, for me haha. I think it looks so crappy when theres just that angle cut off both ends of the wheel wells.

I would recommend the 1" body lift. I would also recommend throwing in new body mounts while at it. I got a kit from LMC that came with the mounts themselves, and all of the hardware when I did my Suburban.

Says who?

I wheel 37's on a built 10b, on the rocks...

I only ever broke my frame.
Stupid, wussy 1/2 ton frame. :doah:

What people MEAN to say, is that wheeling is more fun with a D60,
cuz you don't really need to worry about it.
Just wail on it.

Thanks man, I think thats what I am planning on doing. I appreciate it!:waytogo:

That is true to a point. I have snapped two Dana 60 30 spline outers in the past month. I also beat the dog piss out of my stuff.
