I saw the pitman, idler had a little play too, not much. I wrote it off as standard gm slop. Hopefully you can sort some headers relatively easily, that would be really nice, especially to ditch the air pump and all the emissions junk.
I may have some headers. I feel like I need to contribute for an awesome dude.
You've gotta be the only one on here who's happy to have found a pinion leak.
I assume the axle linkage is for the late-model adjustable rear brakes?
That's the load sensitive proportioning valve , it's suppose to give you more rear brake bias under load . But they usually rust up solid and don't work.
Geez pinion half empty guy there. It leaves nothing on the ground. Therefore it is not a leak. It is rust proofing

That's definitely a 10.5 axle. If I am thinking correctly, the cool fins on the top and bottom were only a 10.5 thing.

I've always read/heard different info on what years the 10.5's came with the cooling fins and/or the removable drums. But I too am curious to see the brake set up on this one.And only special 10.5s, the early models didn't have them.
The real question is whether he has removable brake drums. I'm pretty sure 1990 is too early for that, but I was also surprised to see fins on that year of truck. So what do I know?![]()

The fins started around '88, iirc. My 91 V3500 had the typical drum set up, not slide off.
Sooo headers. Did a bit more looking. Both exhaust manifolds are cracked. Not bad but they are leaking a tiny bit.
So what's decent out there. I can't spend a ton on em. I'd love some Sanderson headers but those aren't in the budget now. New manifolds look to be around 50 each.
What's decent. I really don't wanna be tightening bolts all the time. I don't wanna blow out gaskets either.
As far as the rest of the exhaust I need to look and see should be simple to do a crossover tube. I like a single exhaust. But will do a dual if easier
Yep , 88 , slide off drums are a GMT400 thing
Man that's soooo tempting. I think I'll stick with the roof for now. I'll go look for those headers. If your down next weekend maybe you can help us set the pinion angle for some new perchesThat would be excellent!
Oddly enough I'm heading to Phoenix to help a buddy get tires, so I'll be cruising through tonight. But I'll also be down next weekend, you want a windshield frame?????
or just stop by and say heyThey can be tightened.I'd leave it but it no longer stays.
I doubt these are slide off drums. Would be cool.
I was just happy to see a full float. Reading on the GM heritage center would lead you to believe they were all 9.5" SF.
The 454 was the determining factor. 1981 and newer C/K/R/V 20/2500 got the 9.5" semi float UNLESS it had the 454 which was limited to 2wds. 20 series crews are the exception as all crews got the FF.
I have only seen them on 3/4 and 1 ton pickups as well. That is what I meant. I had also thought they were a truck-only thing.
