I saw the pitman, idler had a little play too, not much. I wrote it off as standard gm slop. Hopefully you can sort some headers relatively easily, that would be really nice, especially to ditch the air pump and all the emissions junk.

Just get good bolts, and cu gaskets and you should be fine.

That's definitely a 10.5 axle. If I am thinking correctly, the cool fins on the top and bottom were only a 10.5 thing.
And only special 10.5s, the early models didn't have them.
The real question is whether he has removable brake drums. I'm pretty sure 1990 is too early for that, but I was also surprised to see fins on that year of truck. So what do I know?

The fins started around '88, iirc. My 91 V3500 had the typical drum set up, not slide off.

I think the pitman was one of those things where it was ready to be done. I'd imagine it got way worse on my drive home.

Not all GMT400s got them. Mine had old brakes with the newer ribbed housing.
Man that's soooo tempting. I think I'll stick with the roof for now. I'll go look for those headers. If your down next weekend maybe you can help us set the pinion angle for some new perches

My only suggestion at this point is to use remflex header gaskets. The OEM style gasket on my 22R, leaked the day I installed it. I swapped it for a remflex based on what other yota guys suggested and I'm super impressed with them. They're twice as thick, you torque it down to their specs, not the OEM spec and it crushes about half way. I'll buy a set for Daisy one of these days, one of hers leaks slightly when the engine is cold.

They can be tightened.
The 454 was the determining factor. 1981 and newer C/K/R/V 20/2500 got the 9.5" semi float UNLESS it had the 454 which was limited to 2wds. 20 series crews are the exception as all crews got the FF.
That's what I thought too, so reading stuff confused me a bit. I had thought all 454s in 3/4 tons were the full float rear.
