The Beige Jimmy

I would be pretty confident it has had some jet work done because he had to pass tailpipe emissions in CO. Plus I've been to a 12,000ft pass with @regal403 and I don't remember the carb giving him too much trouble.
It should be running lean at 32' elevation then. Right?

Should be. That's why my old K10 knocked so bad when it was in Virginia.

Should so lean it would hesitate on a throttle snap.

I had a Colorado factory delivered ford at 500' had to drive around with the choke on.
Only jets I could find were big block Ford. Carb had 47s I tried 52, to rich. Finally found some 49s. Could drive top of Hualapai which is @ 8k

To be fair, Argentine Pass is 13,207'. I'll dig into the carb to see what size jets I actually do have.

One thing I'm looking forward to in the winter here is warmer temps than Denver, plus my new garage is insulated. :woot:
Meaning I'll have plenty of time to address the valve seals this winter. I'll just keep cruising as is for now and checking the plugs more often, cleaning and replacing as needed.

I love this vehicle
Wow that grill is a true barn find is clean
Man, it is in truly great shape. I got it from a retired doctor who said he used it maybe twice. He even threw in some grape wood smoker packet things (new in the package) and a propane tank, cover, and brand new grill brush for $60. Even helped me load it up!

Love the stance and that size tire and wheel package. I'd bring the back up a hair though as I don't like "level" trucks. I wish I had one just like this for me to use as a daily driver.

I don't know how I missed this beauty. I just read the entire thread. Beautiful truck and narrative.
I'm getting ready to drive out to CA to pick up the 79 K5 I just bought from Kieth. #longbedder.
You're preaching to the choir when saying you fall more in love with these old rigs everyday.
I think that's more true if you grew up with them.
Congratulations, I hope you and your family get many years and miles of happiness out of it.

Well wouldn't you know a while back a mysterious box from Wyoming showed up in the mail. I don't claim to know too many folks in the Cowboy State, so this did puzzle me some. Inside the box was a set of fancy full disk GMC wheel covers, just like old Jimbo here would have had rolling off the factory line in February 1984.

I knew straight away who shipped these glorious saucers to my humble shack: none other than everyone's favorite stock hubcap loving weirdo with a great big bushy beardo, @82355 .

I think it gives the old rig a rather distinguished appearance. What do you guys think?

These long Oregon winters are about as wet as a you'd imagine, which I'm sure is doing wonders for my rust spots and dry window seals.

I'm just about ready to get started to prepare thinking about planning my axle swap project, but first step was to clear out the car hole and get this big unit dry.

Fits like a glove.
IMG_20211225_193102_663.jpg

Barely. Shoulda got a bigger garage.

This is my daily commuter on my daily commute. Sure isn't an ugly drive, but the steep hilly curves do get old after a while. Sometimes I just want to drink my coffee and motor down the road, not be on constant high alert for dumb drivers, deer, and occasional black ice.

Don't remember seeing those hubcaps before. I do like them. Definitely way better than the version my 73 C10 had.

I don't think the u-joint should look like that, but I'm no expert.

And this brake line fitting decided it wanted to stay put, so I went ahead and left it there for now.

Just snipped her right off. Rear brakes are probably not that important anyway.

The axle u-bolts came apart pretty easy, all things considered. I used a lot of PB Blaster and worked the threads back and forth until they came undone.

That'll work, I guess.
20220116_132250.jpg

Now I have to find this thing a new home.
