The Beige Jimmy

My goal is to 4 wheel drive this on the beach this summer, so I got a bunch of parts on order to swap over my new front axle I got 2 years ago.
I swapped the rear last winter and now it's the front end's turn. It's a 10 bolt out of a 1990 K5, but with 3.42s instead of my stock 2.73s.

While I'm replacing it, I'll replace the tie rod ends, adjusting sleeve, ball joints, leaf spring bushings, and sway bar bushings.

Oh and zero rates and new u bolts front and rear.

Here goes nothing.

But before we clean, maintain, and doll up the 3.42 10 bolt out of a '90 K5, let's spend some time on the upholstery.

Adult beverage of choice: whiskey

After. Not as drastic of an improvement, but still nicer than it was. I find it interesting the driver's seat was partially reupholstered with a different pattern and maybe a different color? Or it's much newer and hasn't faded as bad as the rest of the seats.

That's enough work for 1 day. Time for another cold snack.

Before I get new material or seat covers, I'd like to try vinyl dye. Anybody have advice on how to do that?

If you reupholster, switch to plaid cloth.

It would be nice someday to have plaid seats like this blazer-interior-630x390.jpg

But for now, I'm planning to dye my existing seats and put in 3rd row Suburban seats in the back. They passed the test fit, now I have to drill holes and get some better bolts than the ones that came with my ebay kit.

They could stand a little cleaning, but are in fairly decent shape.20230316_175401.jpg

This will make a nice addition to the garage or back porch some day, but for now I slapped it back into the Jimmy.

Meanwhile, I did a full rebuild of the new front end.

Too bad about that ugly back seat, but I suppose with the kids back there, it makes sense.
