Yep, just like feeling out the clutch. You get a good feel for it

Absolutely use the bike cable and not the choke cable. Smooth

So will the handthrottle return on its own if you let go or is it more dial in and stay?

I know I can bump the idle on the efi setup...this here looks real simple too. It looks like it just controls the pedal yeah?
The throttle cable Josh linked to earlier might do that if you wish.
I personally don't like anything sticking in the throttle system.

The one time I needed the keep the throttle up (hard winching from the top of the pile) I used a gals hair tie and help it open at 1500 RPM

The new fancy efi will let me adjust idle on the fly...wondering if I could get away with that. Either way I like your setup and I'll probably go that route.

Big enough alternator and 2x batteries, probably won't need to throttle it up. I eventually went with 2x 1000 A optimas. That rig was trail heavy, winched a lot of people out on a constant basis.

I opted for a single 1000A on this build. Not going bat guano tho

Suuuure. Just a little part here and there then bam...ultra 4 truck and sponsors!

Good to know. Id love to see more of the ol k5....

Ill definitely do two battrees at some point. For now I need the big alternator to get me going.

I tagged you in his thread. He did add a bigger alternator, too

I added a hand throttle to my 1982 K30 3+3 and it was one of the best modifications I did to that carbureted hunk of shit. Between being carbureted, under geared, and having a crappy NP205, it really helped.

My 1990 Blazer with proper gearing, TBI, and a doubler, I haven't bothered to add one, as it isn't nearly as necessary.

Still, a cool mod.

I also had one in my 1988 V10 Suburban, and I used it driving around all the time.

One option since you don't have air conditioning is to set the AC fast idle to whatever you want for winching, then just run a toggle switch to the ECU that makes it think the AC is on. Et voila, fast idle with manual control.

So, I have yet to see this hand turtle you are talking about...

You look down and see a tortoise, Leon. It's crawling toward you...

Leon: Tortoise? What's that?

Holden: [irritated by Leon's interruptions] You know what a turtle is?

Leon: Of course!

Holden: Same thing.

Alright gang

New rear boompah. Needs to hang low enough to protect the bottom of the bed corners. Preferably using 4" square tube. Possibly incorporate the factory boompah, which is 8"

And go

I've just got a big slab of 4x8 square tube to run flat across the back. That's the next project after I get the truck back together.

Thinking of cutting it here, grafting the 4" to the outside. Rebels the diamond plate to the 4". Recess the whole bumper forward 2" to maintain the factory gapsimage.jpg
