Good deal with the hood!

Now I know that you won't be offended ,

So what the f*** is with the paint on the gasket surfaces?
Are you bad at masking ?
Do I need to train you?

I gotta give you some crap since you lead in this game.....

I like to use a thin coat of lubriplate grease on gasket surfaces when I paint. Way faster and easier than masking and then you just wipe it off along with the overspray when dry.

Truth is all this stuff is getting assembled into each section now, then installed in the spring. Not a fan of doing all this work and leaving bare metal for 6 months. So i just painted everything

Ill wipe it off with carb cleaner while @Justin V is taking the ether to @Frwee Wiwwy

I was talking to @ZooMad75 Rob today about trans/tcase oils
Anyone else wanna chime in on that?

He suggested using the later SM465 lubrication, which is much lighter

I looked it up now that I've got back home. Spec for an 87 465 trans is Dexron II. Which is what now known as GM manual transmission and transfer case fluid. GM Part # 88861800. Now the other option is going to Dexron VI ATF, which is backwards compatible to all previous versions of Dexron ATF. Dex 6 is synthetic fluid vs all earlier versions being conventional crude based oils.

I think running the Lighter fluid would aid in shift quality for sure.

Its what they ran in the 203 units behind a TH400. So I'm guessing its okay for a 205?

Hey that's GM for you. I think that is a good reason to go with Dex 6. It covers all previous versions. You could be running it in all 3 gearboxes. Only need to carry type of fluid in your box if you need it on the trail.

$20 a quart?

$20 a quart? Hell no. More like $5 to $7 bucks depending on where you get it. PN 88861037
