Wasn’t as productive as I wanted to be. Cold AF and couldn’t get much heat in the garage.

Read through the FITech installation manual and dig up some pictures for the tank swap

Went out to the garage and tore apart the spare 465 after realizing I pressed a bum bearing in there

Cut the rivets off the spare tire cross member and knocked it out, leaving the other support in for now until I can brace the frame. Did some tank layouts.

Green is the bed supports. The hashed section is my desired spot for the tank, with the fill tube needing to be where the bed support is.

Thoughts on bracing the bed once I cut that out?

The fill tube will angle through the bed like a K5, then running under the bed and over the frame into the tank. Planning on grafting the existing filler tube behind the wheel well about 4” higher that the current location

I will cut the floor to make an access hatch. So that bed support will get torched for clearance.

Might just triangulate it to the support behind it and move the bed mount bolt back to that point

Two of what would be 4 sides, angle iron frame to drop through the bed, weld and seal the frame to the bed so the water won’t run in. Flat hinged plate over the top with a bolt to keep it down

The bed will be fine without the support unless you are planning on hauling loads of concrete.

How are you going to fit the filler between the bed and the frame?

My truck does do work. Just don’t want to create a structural event via gas axe

And the filler neck is going to fit.
Might be like shoving a tailpipe up a ducks butt, but it’ll go

I want to see it fit, mine is tight with the body lift.

And the bed will be fine, don’t over think it.

Well they fit factory on blazers and burbs w/o a body lift

And the support I need to cut is the rear main support also the body mount and bolt. So taking a bit of a gander before I go hog wild. Just trying to prevent a future issue

I cut one support for clearance on my '70, but shortbed, so a little less length to flex, combined with the fact that it doesn't get used much for hauling.
I did have an actual ton of flagstone in the bed once, behind the toolbox!

I don't believe that you will have a huge problem with the filler hose, but I don't know what diameter you need. I think that the older stuff was a smaller size.

Are you really going to use a torch to cut it?

Probably have to, don’t think anything else is going to work over the frame

I understand. I have a body saw that would be decent for that, or a sawzall with a short blade, cuz trying to cut both sides at once would be a challenge to do well.
I think that I used a cut-off wheel with the bed upside down.
I know that on the older K5 and suburban, the frame rail was bent down slightly by the filler tube. I did the same to my trucks, but I don't have an idea if you may need to.

I have 3” above the frame to the bed. Going to be tight no doubt

I’ll cut one side at a time. I didn’t shove a grinder up there yet.

Frame is different on blazers and Burbs back there

No, hadn't even thought about that, I just envision lots of burnt paint. ..
And I don't see that using a cut-off wheel above yourself will be pleasant.

What paint?
And the fill dinger is 1.75”, rises above the tank about 2.75”

Hoping to do some progress on getting the tank mounted Saturday, then start the skidder. Short a few components of the fuel system yet

Additionally, truck needs to stay running so I can use it.
