Because every modern car is driver side tank, and the rest of the population uses those before I get there. Been running the passenger side tank as my primary for twenty years. I drive right up to the pump

Hmmmm, I think you might be onto something.

That's reasonable.

What it comes down to is everyone pulls in off the street straight to the pump. So when the station is crowded, you have to loop to fill up. Then some jackass in a rice wagon cuts in front of you.

Now I pull in straight off the street

The K5s and suburbans had the filler on the right side anyway.
Will the sender clock 180* to be able to point the fill tube to the left? I know that there is a tab which would need to be cut off, but what about the float clearance in the sump. (assuming TBI tank) otherwise the fuel lines would point to the left as well.
And what does it matter if you turn around before or after filling up??? Lol!
But the little bit of exercise won't hurt...

Half the stations here you have to back up to turn around. Why set it up that way?

The bevel on the tank to the back puts the neck to the passenger side

Whats going to happen is every time you pull into a gas station you're going to forget that you mounted it on the passenger side and you're going to have to get back in the damn truck and turn around going the other way. At that point in time some bastard will have pulled up to the last pump and you will have to wait.

When you finally get a chance to pump after you've turned around that bastard that took the last pump is also grabbing the last breakfast burrito they had.

I put my fuel cell pickup on the pass side. The above happens to me all the time.

Been using that side for years. At least it’s out the bed side and not inside so I don’t have to climb in or on to fill it up
