What kind of load is it on? Also would be curious, what is the 5 digit serial number on the box? I think on the sector shaft

GM has run into some issues on the late model stuff where they are using a different fluid for steering. Sometimes it is a cold climate fluid, others are using dex 6 synthetic ATF instead.
Something we've cleared some noise complaints with Lucas ps fluid.

PSC recommends swepco 715 for that reason.

Good to know. I wasn't aware that PSC spec'd out a specific fluid. Kills my idea at least.

I am running synthetic ATF in mine. Have it in a couple of other trucks.
I have also had BG steering additive clear up a couple of issues on older boxes. Never tried it for noise.
The instructions with my box said power steering fluid and not ATF but didn't specify a type or kind. I put in the oreilly brand power steering fluid.

I've been running Amsoil tractor transmission fluid in my PSC stuff for coming up on 10 years now. Seems to work fine.
They probably just don't want to try out and test a bunch of fluids. They picked 2 and left it at that.
What is it? Semi-synthetic? I would bet that Amsoil is not regular stuff.
But, yeah, all oils are not alike, and often they won't try everything if they find something that works.
Go put some miles on it and let's hope that all is fixed!
Not trying to act like a know it all, but just for sh!ts and giggles. This is what PACCAR says. Our trucks run dual steering boxes.

First read about it on Pirate from one of the rock crawling competitors. They switched to it and stopped having PSC pump issues.
Exactly why I chose to use the fluid specified and I’m glad I did because I’m on my 3rd PSC pump in 3 years.
Pretty normal thing to expect any outfit to do that if they did the research on what works for them. The odd thing is with others using non-spec fluid and don't have problems. My normal luck would be use the wrong stuff and it still didn't work and now they won't honor the warranty.
I’m not surprised some other fluids work fine, they just haven’t been tested and approved by PSC like you mentioned. There’s plenty of horror stories about certain fluids causing cavitation with hydro assist so it wasn’t worth the risk on a fresh build for me.
Yeah just like my freightliner uses engine oil.
Personally I have had about a 100 vehicles that I have worked on and my experience was atf ruined the pumps faster.
And I read the the friction modifiers for helping the clutches grab affected the seals.
