The Hellcat Blazer

Just a budget Blazer build out of control
Got everything assembled on the front end, and converted from auto to billet manual hubs. Also set up my custom paint booth (professional) and hit the ORD brackets with 2 coats of primer, 1 coat of black primer sealer, and 2 coats of red. Shocks got here today too, idk if I should install them now? I'll probably wait for the springs.

Dang, I got the same paint booth!

I also just got the same shocks. Haven't got to really try them out yet, but they look kinda cool. :waytogo:

Everything is back together and ready for break-in. I ran out of diff fluid, put 1.5 qts in but it's about 1" low still so I gotta grab some tomorrow. The brackets also turned out great.

I found a guy who wants the 383 that's in the Blazer right now. He originally only wanted the engine and EFI, but I upsold him on the 4L80 and trans controller in exchange for free labor. I'm meeting with him tomorrow to hopefully exchange cash, then I'm gonna build him a 4L80 (I have an extra) and put the 383/4L80 combo into his 68 Nova for him at the end of this month. That'll open up the engine bay so I can start playing with blower fitment, and free up ~$5500 liquid (what I'm asking for the engine/trans/efi/trans controller) to help nurse my decimated bank account. That means my suspension was free, right??

The car guy math is strong with this one. Keep it up!

I'm tryin to take care of the list of boring things before the fun stuff gets here. The guy who sold me the truck gave me the door keys and said "the door locks are just stuck". Turns out they were the wrong keys. I fixed some broken wiring at the door hinges and put new door locks and solenoids in, and also the keyed rear window actuator. The actuator was a serious pain in the a$$, but all the doors lock now! I had a socket set stolen from it months ago because it didn't lock.

The driver window motor was also out, so I picked up a new motor. I didn't want to do the job twice, so I plugged it in and verified it worked before installation. Got everything back together, and the driver window rolled 1/4 of the way down and quit. A brand new motor! Had to replace it AGAIN (luckily had a warranty) and all is well. The lesson here, is: sometimes you're just meant to do it twice. Good thing I love these trucks!

The cam and springs finally got here! I lapped the valves, threw on some new seals and BTR .560" springs. It passed the brake cleaner leak test, so I'm happy. They're ready for install once I have these 4L80s off my stand. I'm running a smaller, low end torque cam for that down low grunt, which is gonna rip riiiight into boost with my 2800 stall. It'll start falling off around 6000, but that's where I'm gonna set the limiter anyway, and a 6.0 at 10-12psi will be doing fine by then.

The Nova taking the 383 from the Blazer will get here tomorrow, as long as the pass is clear! Once I get that pulled and the 383/4L80 fitted in the Nova, I'll finally be able to get the LS into the Blazer and check out the blower fitment! I'm hoping I don't have to move the engine more than an inch forward. UGH I'm impatient. Maybe I'll get it together with truck accessories and intake, and break the 6.0 in before the blower adapters get here...idk. I have a very long list of things to handle with the Blazer, and almost all of it requires the new engine to be in.
-Headers/exhaust
-Surge tank/fuel lines
-A2W intercooler tank (I have a neat idea)
-Extend 4wd linkage
-Blower fitment
-Install/wire up Terminator X Max
-Figure out A/C
-Power steering lines/rez (hopefully this Corvette pump can keep up with the hydroboost AND power steering)

And once the ORD suspension gets here, I have another very long list, trac bars and limit straps and all that fun stuff. I also need to take care of the Nova, and I'm doing a 4L80 conversion for a guy in La Pine with a '95 K1500, 5.7/4L60 so my plate is pretty full. I barely have enough room to move around in the garage, and I can't move my Camaro out because there's gonna be random rain/snow on and off for the next couple weeks. I do hope to have the 6.0 sitting in the engine bay by the end of the week (Mar 28) but we'll see. I'll keep y'all posted!

If you have any ideas, thoughts, or input on anything on that list, feel free to let me know! Do y'all know some 1⅞" or bigger headers that'll fit for a decent price?

When I put an A2W intercooler on my Buick, I used a Polaris coolant tank. Nice size for the application and comes with a pressure cap, so it's easy to fill.

I have a ~1.5gal cell in my squarebody for the centrifugal setup, but the hellcat coolers are inside the supercharger, and mounted directly to the engine via aluminum brackets. I'm worried the heat soak is gonna be way more substantial, especially in a truck that'll see lower average speeds than my 2wd square. I'm hoping for 5-7gal capacity so it'll stay cooler a little longer

I was workin till 11:30 last night getting the engine together, then today got the garage cleaned and reorganized so I could pull the Nova in. I'll get crackin on that tomorrow. The sooner I pull the 302/th350, the sooner I can pull the 383. Then the 6.0 goes in and I can start knocking tasks off the list, most importantly blower fitment!

Got the 6.0 lifters prepped, heads on with LS9 gaskets, and head studs torqued! Once the long block was together, I couldn't help but break out the blower adapters.

I'm hoping to have the LS sitting in the k5 Tuesday, just to eyeball some measurements and see what I'm working with. I don't have the adapters to actually bolt it in yet, but it'll probably sit just fine. Here's some more details for people who may be wanting to do this:

Curious to see if youll need a cowl hood. Where did you get the adapters from? I know theres a conpany that adapts other factory blowers to ls, name is escaping me at the moment.

We'll see about hood clearance, it's gonna be close. I wouldn't mind a cowl hood, but cutting a hole in my flat hood and letting the blower stick out an inch would be cool too. Getting some fresh air flowing over the blower lid would be great for additional cooling.

I'm using DJ Tuning's adapters, got them on pre-order for $500! The other adapters on the market are 1200-2000, ridiculous in my opinion. Production was delayed, so he sent me that 3D printed set for mockup while I wait. Cool guy, and always responds when I email him or message him on Instagram.

Cool, good to know!

This was the guy I was thinking about:

They dont have kits yet for hellcat, but so far they have kits to run ford blowers, for cheap boost. Their ‘complete’ kits are $800ish. Just needs lower manifold and blower.

No denying the hellcat blower is cooler and make more power

Yeah, I follow those guys on some platforms. They're doing great stuff!

Video update for today

I decided not to put the LS in tonight. I need to surgically remove the EFI/Trans Control from the Blazer harness, and that'll be easier to do when I can stand in the engine bay without the LS in there. Even at 6'4 with long arms, working on a 4" lifted K5 on 35's is a PITA, lol.

Looking at the firewall, though, is very interesting. The blue line in the picture below is where the top of the SBC valve covers sit. Doesn't it look like it's made for the hellcat blower?? Contoured and everything. I'm more impatient now than ever to put the LS in there and see how everything sits, but I have a Nova to swap and 4L80s to build between now and then. Gotta rest tonight, it was a long, exhausting day and I have gym tomorrow morning.
